“Mountain Memories Quilt Show” set for June 19-20

June 15, 2009 06:27 pm

The Cumberland County Piecemakers Quilt Guild is having its 5th Biennial “Mountain Memories Quilt Show” June 19-20, in Crossville. The show will take place at the Community Complex (fairgrounds) during Depot Days; a popular antique tractor show is held at the fairgrounds at the same time, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy! Hours of the Quilt Show are Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT, and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT. There will be quilts of all sizes, as well as quilted wearables and home décor. And, of course, there will be lots of door prizes given out every 15-20 minutes throughout each day.
Awards will be given out in 11 different categories. This year they have added a “Gentlemen’s Choice” award. The Gentlemen’s Choice Award is new this year and only the men can vote. Many area quilt shops and quilt guilds have contributed to the various awards. For a complete list of sponsors, categories, rules and awards, please visit the guild's Web site at www.ccpiecemakers.com and click on "Quilt Show 2009" or call Sallye Sykes 788-5274.
Live quilting demonstrations will take place each day, with an opportunity to ask questions of some of their very talented quilters. Vendors will have items for sale and Joyce Harvill, a licensed appraiser, will be available to appraise your treasured quilts (for a fee).
Additionally, Marsha Radtke from Crossville will be doing a book signing. Her book, “A Baltimore Album,” about her award-winning quilt "The Pastor’s Attic," is being published by American Quilters Society and will be out in time for the quilt show.
For a small donation, some lucky person will be the owner of the beautiful “2009 Opportunity Quilt.” The quilt pattern is “Oregon Railroad” and was pieced by chair Pat Smith, Katie Howard, Pat Roberts, Marvell Stevens and Sallye Sykes. The machine quilting was contributed by Luana Stidham. It is a beautiful quilt with primary colors being burgundy, gold, cinnamon, rose and cream with small accents of green and red.
