Big Band Sound to play in the "Garden Ball" May 10

The Big Band Sound will play Saturday, May 10, for the “Garden Ball,” one of the first activities at the new Fairfield Glade Community Center. The event is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $11 per person.

The evening will feature a variety of music, and the Recreation Department’s team will decorate with seasonal flowers.

For information and reservations, call the Recreation Department at 484-3722. Because it is one of first opportunities for residents to use the facility, early reservations are necessary. Seating is limited.

Reservations can be made and tickets paid for prior to the event in person at the Recreation Center. Reservations by phone may be charged to a credit card. Cancellations made two days before the dance will be given full refunds.

The band will feature several soloists including Joe Brindisi of Fairfield Glade, who will perform two selections on the alto saxophone. Carroll Gotcher will solo on the trombone.

Vocalists Wanda Hepburn and Lloyd Holt will be busy during all three sets. They will be singing waltzes, ballads, fox trots and many swing songs. Duets are also on the program.

In addition to slow and upbeat fox trots and swing, there will be a waltz and a cha cha in each of the three sets. The band will include two rumbas, two tangos, rock numbers and a line dance in the program.

Dance clubs and classes are welcome. Tables seat eight persons and may be reserved. The dance committee furnishes soft drinks and light snacks. Other beverages and party foods are permitted at the Big Band Dances only and may be brought into the facility by those attending.

The Recreation Center is located six miles north of I-40 (Exit 322) at Peavine Road and Stonehenge Road.
