The Brass Arts Quintet at Tennessee Tech University will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, in Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building, located on the Tennessee Tech campus at 1150 N. Dixie Avenue. The program will feature members of the group and special guests in works by Greg Danner, Thomas Weelkes, Kerry Turner, Zequina de Abreu, Walter Hartley, Scott Joplin, Ernst Pichler, Arthur Pryor and Duke Ellington.
The evening’s concert will feature members of the group both in ensemble and as soloists along with collaborations with colleagues Phil Barham, who will perform Hartley’s "Concertino da Camera" for soprano saxophone and brass quintet, and new TTU professor of Horn Jeremy Hansen, performing on "The Nonpareil" by Scott Joplin, "Musik für Bläser" by Ernst Pichler and Weelkes’ well known six-part madrigal "As Vesta Was From Latmos Hill Descending."
Tennessee Tech professor of trombone Joshua Hauser says of the concert, “We are always delighted to have the opportunity to work with our colleagues on other instruments and it is a pleasure to include both Phil and Jeremy in this program. Our most recent CD, ‘Serengeti,’ includes two other works that we recorded with Phil as saxophone soloist with the quintet and we feel that this instrumentation is a natural fit for us. We also are proud to welcome Jeremy to the faculty here at TTU and look forward to many more opportunities to play works for larger brass ensembles in the future. The sound of the two horns on the Weelkes is a wonderful addition to our repertoire.
“This should be a fun and varied performance that everyone will enjoy. We look forward to seeing you here.”
Members of the quintet are Charles Decker and Chris McCormick, trumpets; Greg Danner, horn; Joshua Hauser, trombone; and Winston Morris, tuba.
