Panthers play at Ooltewah tonight in playoffs
The TSSAA playoffs begin tonight, as the Stone Memorial Panthers travel to Ooltewah to face the Owls, who finished in a three-way tie for first in District 5AAA at 5-1 with Cleveland and East Hamilton.
Rocky Top Beat: Vols host Auburn Saturday
The Tennessee schedule is starting to take its toll on the team, the coaching staff and the Vol Nation. After playing two exceptional games at home against quality opponents earlier in October, the Vols have taken their lumps in two of their latest contests on the road.
ALL IN THE GAME: It was great while it lasted
My euphoria over the big Vanderbilt upset of Georgia was shortlived, but believe me, I truly enjoyed it. A sound thumping by Texas A&M can not take it away. I'm sure that Frank Gale feels the same way regarding Tennessee, who was fairly, soundly beaten by that "red team" after the Vols' upset of the Gamecocks. Then again, some UT fans just can't take a defeat even when it is to the number one team in the land.
ROCKY TOP BEAT: Vols to start true freshman QB Saturday
Tennessee saw its season’s record fall to 4-4 this past weekend when they went down to long-time rival, top-ranked Alabama. The Vols also lost Justin Worley, probably for the remainder of the season, when he re-injured his throwing hand. Enter true freshman Joshua Dobbs, the third signal caller of the season, as the Vols roll into what was once to be the easier part of a difficult schedule.
ALL IN THE GAME: It was a good day for most of us
Just when Frank Gale thought he would really be able to give it to me as Tennessee defeated their long-time nemesis Steve Spurrier, his bubble lost a little air. Not long after the last second win by the Vols, Vanderbilt, sans their starting quarterback, scored 17 unanswered points in a stirring comeback win over Georgia.
ROCKY TOP BEAT: Vols take on No. 1-ranked Alabama Saturday
The Vols ended its streak of losses against ranked teams last Saturday with a win over South Carolina. That victory also got Team #117 closer to one of the goals for this season, becoming bowl eligible. Now, it is on to Tuscaloosa tomorrow for a game against "the red team" as Butch Jones has started to call them.
Vols host SEC foe South Carolina
The second half of the season has arrived. Thanks to a spirited effort against Georgia, the expectations have taken an upward turn. This week the Vols face another highly-ranked SEC foe. Playing South Carolina in Knoxville has the Big Orange Nation thinking upset, especially when the Vols have won two of the last three games played on Rocky Top.
We've got to step it up several notches
After what I had hoped was a successful meeting with the defense that will lead to much better play, the road continues to be bumpy, as the Commodores seek their first SEC win of the season. I felt a little better about the Vandy performance against Missouri after seeing what the Tigers did to Georgia in Athens.
All in the Game: The ups and downs of being a fan
I suppose that I could have done what the Vanderbilt defense did, and just took the week off, but I decided to write a column anyway.
Rocky Top Beat: Vols impress in heartbreaker Saturday
This past weekend, the excitement was back at Neyland Stadium. Long time attendees told me they had not heard that amount of noise since the late 1990s. Younger members of the Vol Nation, who had not experienced that kind of atmosphere, now know what it will take going forward to make the 12th man relevant in future games.
