Being positive sometimes takes a huge effort to sort through the not so pleasant events to find the silver linings. This past weekend was a really dismal one for me primarily because of the Ryder Cup outcome.
I consider myself as much a patriotic soul as anyone on this green earth and that feeling extends into the realm of sports. It takes me longer to get over any loss by a team representing our nation than a frequent loss by the Commodores.
This Cup event was really distasteful because some of my favorite golfers were among those that folded their tent, including Brandt Snedeker, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson. I have no doubt that Tiger would have won his match if it had counted. At least the semi-comatose southern golfer Jason Dufner won his match. I will take consolation in that, along with the wins by Dustin Johnson and Zack Johnson. Regardless, I'm over it now and I'm ready for Vanderbilt to secure a SEC win at Missouri. I still haven't given up on Vandy and I never will.
Just how do you followers of the orange feel about the loss at Georgia? You must get some positive vibes from the offensive production, at least until the very end. Will close losses be enough to save Derek Dooley's job? I wonder just who you hard core Volunteer fans would like to see at the helm? Would you smile at an announcement that Steve Spurrier was returning to East Tennessee? Mississippi State will have a lot to say about what happens in the coaching ranks in Knoxville.
Monday night gave me a good positive regarding Vanderbilt as Jay Cutler had one of his better games beating the Cowboys. Anytime Jerry Jones loses is a good time for me.
The biggest positive of the football weekend has to be the huge win by the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders over Georgia Tech. The Oglesby household is probably still rocking, as well as the home of Jim and Jane Powers. MTSU didn't just beat the 'Rambling Wreck.' They thumped them.
Though Tennessee is idle this weekend there are still several good games for you Vol fans to watch. LSU and Florida should be a good one with the Gators coming out on top. I think that Randy Bond's Kentucky Wildcats will prevail over Mississippi State.
I believe that those Wolverine fans in the Glade will have to suffer through another loss, as Purdue should put a whooping on Michigan.
Regardless, Mr. Sun will rise on Sunday and we will have another Saturday to look forward to. No reason to grieve for long periods over what is simply a game.
Everybody have a great week and remember it is almost trick or treat time. Vandy is going to give me a treat this weekend and I hope you all get one also.
Go Jets! Go Panthers! Go USA!
