Chase Wood became the first senior from the 2007 CCHS Jet football team to sign a college football scholarship.

He joined his family and coaches on Wednesday, Feb. 6, National Signing Day, to sign along the dotted line with Harding University of Searcy, AR, a city of 20,000 residents, which is 50 miles northeast of Little Rock, AR, and 105 miles east of Memphis.

"It just felt right. I had the opportunity to get a higher education. I'm just living a dream," said Wood, who is going to major in sports management. "I had a special bond with the coaches and players."

"Chase won the Mr. Jet award this season, because did everything for the team. He has a big heart and cared about the team. He was a great example to everybody on the team," said CCHS Coach Tony Shultz.

As a senior, he recorded 21 tackles with 11 assists, two fumble recoveries, two quarterback sacks and two tackles for minus yardage.

In 2006, he had 19 tackles with 10 assists, one sack, one interception and one tackle for minus yardage.

He also played basketball this season for Coach Scott Eggleston and Will Foster.

"He has been a big part of we do. He has a great attitude and understands his role," said Eggleston. "He is a great kid."

He is the son of Chase and Rebecca Wood and the grandson of S.C. and Betty Maynard. His sister, Julia, is a member of the Jet cheerleading squad.
