The South Elementary basketball teams captured the 2011 Farragut Admirals Christmas Tournament played Dec. 27-30.

The South Rebels defeated Bearden 39-30 to claim the title.  They knocked down 10 straight foul shots in the last two minutes to break open a tied game.  

Mason Baucum led the Rebels with 12 points, followed by Drew Vaden with 11, David Elliott (8), Cade Smith (6) and Silas Clark (2).  

South defeated Farragut 38-34, West Valley 38-30, and North middle 39-22 to qualify for the championship game.  

Mason Baucum, Cade Smith and Drew Vaden were named to the all tournament team.

The South Lady Rebels went undefeated all week to win the championship on Friday defeating West Valley in the championship game.

Alli Hyder, Destiny Carlton and Makenzie Iles were named to the Admirals Christmas Classic All Tournament Team.


The Elementary basketball league resumes play Thursday, Jan. 5, with the first of eight session left in the 2011-'12 regular season, leading to the tournament , which is tentatively slated for Feb. 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11. The tournament dates are subject to  change due to weather and conflicts with both CCHS and SMHS.

Here is the remainder of the season's schedule:

Jan. 5: Pleasant Hill at Crab Orchard; Homestead at Martin; North at South; and Pine View at Brown. Stone has an open date.

Jan. 9: North at Stone, Brown at Pleasant Hill. Crab Orchard, Homestead and Martin have open dates.

Jan. 12: Crab Orchard at North, Homestead at Stone, Martin at Brown. Pleasant Hill is idle.

Jan. 17: Stone at Crab Orchard, North at Homestead, Pleasant Hill at Martin. Brown has the open date.

Jan. 19: Brown at Crab Orchard; Homestead at Pleasant Hill; Martin at North. Stone has an open date.

Jan. 23: Brown at Homestead, North at Pleasant Hill, Stone at Martin; Crab Orchard has an open date.

Jan. 26: North at Brown, Pleasant Hill at Stone. Crab Orchard, Martin and Homestead have open dates.

Jan. 30: Crab Orchard at Pleasant Hill, Martin at Homestead, Stone at Brown. North has an open date.

South Cumberland is only playing an eight-game county schedule, which concludes Thursday night with its games with North; therefore, the unbalanced schedule and all of the open dates for the other schools. The Rebels and Lady Rebels are the defending county tournament champions.
