After defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles Saturday night, the University of Chattanooga Moc football team is ranked 24th in this week's Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top-25 College Football Poll.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team is 4-2 overall and in third place in the Southern Conference race at 3-1. The Mocs are riding their first four-game winning streak since 1997 and received their first national ranking since that season on Monday afternoon.
The last time UTC was ranked was Nov. 3, 1997, when they were No. 23 in the the Sports Network Top-25, according to the UTC sports information department.
The Mocs opening day opponent, Appalachian State, sits atop the poll at 8-0, while Jacksonville State (7-0) is third. Another Southern Conference foe, Wofford (5-1), is ninth in the country.
The Mocs received 34 points in the FCS Coaches Poll, which puts them 27th, while Appalachian State is atop that poll, as well, with Jacksonville State third, Wofford tenth and Furman 25th.
Chattanooga heads to Greenville, S.C., this weekend, looking to snap a 15-game losing streak to the Furman Paladins. Furman is also back in the top-25 this week, coming in at No. 25 with a 4-2 mark, 2-1 in SoCon play.
The Mocs will travel to Wofford on Nov. 20.
UTC is trying to make it five in a row for the first time since head coach Russ Huesman was a junior defensive back for the Mocs in 1980. Game time is set for 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, before returning to Finley Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 30, for a 2 p.m. EDT game with Elon.
