For the first time in three years, Cumberland County crowned a new elementary school football champion Tuesday night, as Martin (3-0, 5-2) played Homestead (3-0, 6-1) in the title game at Jet Stadium.
This was the team's first appearance in the title game, since the division format was instituted in 2007, while Crab Ochard defeated Brown at Stone Memorial. South Cumberland won back-to-back title games in 2008 and 2009.
Martin earned a berth in the title game by upsetting the two-time defending champion South 34-22 last Tuesday, while Homestead shut out Stone 18-0. Homestead defeated Martin 28-16 during the regular season.
Brown 22, Pleasant Hill 0: In last Tuesday's win over Pleasant Hill, Jacob DeBord, Ty Tabor and Alex Bolles each scored a touchdown, while Matt Vaughn and Tabor each had a two-point conversion.
"We played well. We're a young team. This gives us some momentum into next season," said Brown Coach Rod Shirley.
Ethan Cunningham scored one of the touchdowns in the Rebels 34-22 loss to Martin last week, instead of Devin Rogers.
