Eckelson qualifies for National History Day competition
Earlier this spring, the 2014 East Tennessee History Day competition featured 290 students from East Tennessee representing 22 middle and high school programs. Ninety-four students qualified for the state level competition including one Cumberland County student. East Tennessee’s first, second and third place winners in the Junior and Senior divisions advanced to the state level competition, Tennessee History Day, sponsored by the Tennessee Historical Society in Nashville held on April 12.
Eighth-graders recognized at Frank P. Brown Elementary
Frank P. Brown Elementary School held its Eighth Grade Recognition program on the evening of May 22. Students received awards for academic successes, perfect attendance, outstanding character, and other achievements for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Brown students explore the nation’s capital in May
Seventh- and eighth-grade Frank P. Brown Elementary students and chaperones explored our nation's capital on May 15-19. In addition to touring the Capitol building, Ford's Theatre, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, students experienced the Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR memorials, the National Cathedral and the White House.

Phoenix celebrates positive behavior
The start of the 2013-'14 school year saw many changes for the students, staff and families associated with Phoenix High School. The community also saw positive changes stemming from a new program implemented called School-Wide Positive Behavior Support.
Fantastic Quilters introduce traditional craft in schools
The Fantastic Quilt Guild of Fairfield Glade sponsors a program called “Quilting in the Schools” (QITS) for the middle school and high school students of Cumberland County. It is taught in conjunction with Teen Living and Consumer Education programs.
Summer food sites announced
The Cumberland County School Nutrition Program announces its sponsorship of the 2014 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Human Services under an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
