Submitted

CROSSVILLE — If you love marching bands, color guard, and marching band music, you won’t want to miss the third annual Stone Memorial Invitational to be held at Stone Memorial High School Saturday, Oct. 13.

The SMHS Band Boosters are hosting the event.  There will be 10 bands competing for “bragging rights” as the overall best band. These include bands from Oak Ridge, Clinton, Powell, Pikeville, Dunlap, Rockwood, Riverdale, Wartburg, Harriman and Cumberland County High School Jet Pride Marching Band. A variety of other awards will be presented to the top bands as well.

Scoring of the overall top band in each class will be as follows:  Music will count as 40 percent, visual will count as 30 percent and general excellence will be 30 percent of the total band score. There will also be judges for percussion, drum major, color guard and majorettes. There will be two divisions, 1 – (A, AA) and  2—(AAA, AAAA). A band’s class is decided by the number of winds and percussion in each ensemble.

The SMHS Panther Marching Band will perform in exhibition during the event.
The gates at the SMHS Panther Stadium will open at noon. Admission is $5 with children five and under free. There will be fun for the whole family, including activities for the children.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The SMI is the band’s main fundraiser for the year. All proceeds from the event go toward the SMHS Band program.

For more information, you may contact Joshua Geary at the SMHS Band Room, 707-9280.
