South Cumberland Elementary is excited to receive a unique rock and mineral collection from alumna Gessika Guerra.
Guerra collected specimens all across the United States to create this one-of-a-kind rock and mineral collection. She said, "From cougars to rattlesnakes and blizzards to scorching heat, I made sure to get great specimens.”
South Cumberland is very honored to recognize Ms. Guerra for her vast accomplishments since leaving South Cumberland. Her accomplishments include: 2003-2007 member of CCHS Jet Pride Marching Band, 2007 CCHS Valedictorian, 2007-2009 student of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Recipient of John P. Gries Award for Geology, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Member, Rapid City Community Band Member, 2010 Recipient of University of Tennessee Department of Earth & Planetary Science Undergraduate Scholarships for Professional Promise and Research, Recipient of Knoxville Gem and Mineral Society Award, Gamma Theta Upsilon Honor Society, Recipient of the Mayo Education Foundation, Inc. Scholarship, and a graduate of University of Tennessee Summa Cum Laude in Summer of 2011.
Currently, Guerra is a sailor in the U.S. Navy. She is receiving intense training and engineering instruction in South Carolina for the Navy Nuclear Program. She will be working on the nuclear engines of aircraft carriers or submarines.
