COCCO sets Dec. 14 concert

CROSSVILLE — The Children of Crossville Chamber Orchestra (COCCO) will perform a concert of classical music and popular movie theme songs on Friday, Dec. 14 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Palace Theatre. Tickets are $12 adult/$5 student.

COCCO is a 501©3 non-profit organization. The students, music directors and board members receive no compensation. All donations and sponsorships are used solely for orchestra expenses and are tax deductible. COCCO participants are children in grades 7 through 12.

The orchestra is comprised of violin, cello and bass string instruments. Concerts are accompanied by seasoned adult musicians who join the aspiring young musicians with French horn, piano, flute, etc. COCCO is the only orchestra for young musicians in Cumberland County to train and perform together in public and competitions.

Donations and sponsorships are greatly needed as families are often unable to afford instruments and expense associated with participation in concerts and competitions, even though their child shows interest and talent.

In April 2012, COCCO competed in the Music in the Parks Festival, held at Dollywood, against schools from Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. COCCO received first place in their class, category and division and achieved the highest score out of all the participating instrumental groups with a score of 93.75! In the words of one judge, “Beautiful from the first note! Style and uniformity outstanding. A stellar performance!”

COCCO is directed by Becky Bull. Because of her tireless dedication, the children of Cumberland County are receiving the opportunity of orchestra participation that is not offered in public schools.

Please support these fine, young musicians through donations, concert attendance or possibly a sponsorship. A sponsorship ($100 or more) entitles the donor to two free tickets for both the winter and spring concerts: Dec. 14, 2012  and May 10, 2013 concert. Your check can be made payable to COCCO and mailed to 1117 Hayes Rd., Crossville, TN 38555.
