FFG Ladies Club awards scholarships to 19 students

CROSSVILLE — Scholarships for deserving students were awarded at the June 5 meeting of the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club.

Students receiving scholarships for the first time were Mary Atkinson of Stone Memorial High School (SMHS), Angelia Barrenger of Tennessee Technology Center of Crossville, Rebecca Carter of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville (TTU), Destinee Dowdy of SMHS, Savanna Downing of the Phoenix School, Macye Ellis of SMHS, Blaklee Garret of CCHS, Gregory K. Gibson of SMHS, Kaleb Goss of TTU, Aundrea Hannon of Roane State, Mia Mijatovic of CCHS, Fiona M. Retzer of CCHS, Ivy Turner of SMHS, Jordynne Walker of SMHS, Cameron Warren of TTCC, and Sammie Jo Fulton of Roane State.

Receiving renewals of their grants were Cynthia Rose Gaedt, John McCarty and Cassie Wyatt.

Students were called individually to the podium to announce their course of study and many expressed their gratitude to the dedicated members of the Ladies Club. These young men and women are looking forward to careers in business, nursing, medicine, education and science.

Funding for the scholarships is earned at various events throughout the year, enabling deserving and talented students an opportunity to continue their education and ease the financial burden of doing so. Working in conjunction with guidance counselors, the Scholarship Committee is responsible for selecting those in whom the investment is made. Co-chairs Barbara Storer and Sara Fohr and committee members Jackie Wakefield, Ruth Pavelchik, Sara Tripiciano and Jan O’Keefe were proud to present their selections to members and culminate the club year with the award of these much-appreciated scholarships.

June 5 was the last meeting of the club year. The first meeting for the 2013-2014 club year will be Sept. 4. Members are reminded to pay their dues by then to ensure they are in the Ladies Club Directory. Checks ($15) may be mailed to FGLC, Village Green Mall, P.O. Box 2004, Fairfield Glade, TN. It’s a year that promises to be an exciting one, with the first major event — the Book, Bake and Bargainza Sale — in October. Everyone is welcome to deposit books for the book sale in the drop box located across from Kroger Pharmacy in the Village Green Mall during the summer. You can also join the Ladies Club at the July 4th Pancake Breakfast. Lastly, check out our website (www.ffgladiesclub.org) for all the exciting trips the club has to offer. They’re always fun and a great way to meet fellow club members, raise money and just have a good time.
