Graham earns All-American Livestock Judging Team spot

CROSSVILLE — Crossville's Taylor Graham was one of only ten competitors selected to the All-American Livestock Judging Team Nov. 19 at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville.

The all-American awards program was initiated by the University Livestock Judging Team Coaches' Association in 2000 and is designed to recognize students who have made a personal commitment to livestock judging and have also excelled in academics, university and industry activities and community service. There were 42 students nominated for the honor in 2013, and candidates were narrowed to the top ten individuals. Honorees had a GPA of 3.88. The All American Team program is designed to recognize students who have made a personal commitment to livestock judging and who have also excelled in academics, university and industry activities , and community service.

Graham is a senior at Oklahoma State University and will graduate in May 2014. He has been involved with the Block and Bridle Club, Animal Science Department and the Oklahoma State FARM Blog. He is a member of the American Angus Association and served as an officer for the National Chianina Association. Taylor assisted with tornado relief efforts in Moore, OK, has volunteered with Toys for Tots and his church’s youth programs and has also worked with Habitat for Humanity. He was high individual at the 2013 Dixie National livestock judging contest. Taylor would like to pursue a graduate degree with an emphasis on agricultural law to fulfill his long term goal of lobbying for food animal agriculture.

This was Taylor's third All American honor; he was previously selected as an All American in Junior College while judging for Butler Community college and as a 4-H youth while Gregg Upchurch was his coach.

As an incentive for bringing a parent or guardian, students having a parent/guardian attend had their names entered into a drawing for three gift cards. Friends and family register at a Food City location and shop to earn points throughout the school year to contribute toward a monetary reward for a selected school. Brown Elementary received $1,112 for the 2012-2013 school year with the School Bucks program, which was allocated for instructional materials. BES appreciates the involvement of the community to encourage student achievement.
