Phoenix School student counselor Breanna Van Winkle selected senior Dakota Tillman to be a Fairfield Glade Lions Club “Student of the Month.” Lion Chairman Bob Cover named Dakota to be honored for the month of April 2013.
The Phoenix School was included this 2012-2013 school year to be in the selection for “Student of the Month.” Many of the students from this school are very outstanding and Dakota Tillman is a perfect example. Dakota is on the Prom Committee, Student Council and a day care assistant. He is working for Addicted-2-Thrift Store to earn money to go to college. His great ambition for the future is to complete culinary arts, become a chef and open his own restaurant.
Dakota Tillman and his stepmother, Rhonda Stewart, will be invited to attend a special FFG Lions Club Dinner in early May. He will be recognized and honored for his special month with an engraved plaque showing his name.
Dakota will also be eligible to apply for a part of the $6,000 scholarship fund offered by the Fairfield Glade Lions Club to help fund college needs. A committee of Lions and the three high school counselors will determine the winners and announce them at each school graduation.
The Fairfield Glade Lions Club has been honoring “students of the month” for the past several years. A total of ten students from the Cumberland County high schools are included. There are four from Cumberland County High, four from Stone Memorial and two from the Phoenix School.
FFG Lions Club Chairman Bob Cover commented, “It has been a real pleasure to meet and work with these students. There are many more that should be included but we have to set a limit. I am sure the school counselors feel the same. However, it is very encouraging to share a brief moment with some of the new leaders of our future. “
