High school rocket club to compete in national fly-off

They bicker back and forth and tease each other like brothers and sisters during their meetings. It may seem like fun and games, but these six students from Stone Memorial High School in Crossville recently qualified to compete in the national finals of the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), the world’s largest and most prestigious model rocket contest.....more>>

  • School lunch menus (May 5-9)
    MONDAY — Choice of one: Chicken strips or macaroni and cheese. Choice of two: Mashed potatoes, manager's choice vegetable, green peas, apple wedges with peanut butter or peaches. Chocolate pudding.
    TUESDAY — Choice of one: Hot dog on wheat bun with chili and cheese or chili. Choice of two: Garden side salad with dressing, fries, whole kernel corn, pineapple tidbits or red grapes. Low-fat chocolate chip granola bar.
    WEDNESDAY — Choice of one: Beef and cheese nachos or stromboli. Choice of two: Italian green beans, carrots and broccoli with ranch dip, refried beans with cheese or manager's choice fruit. Applesticks.
    THURSDAY — Choice of one: Cheese "smart" pizza or barbecue pork on wheat bun. Choice of two: Potato smiles, garden salad with dressing, whole kernel corn, green grapes or manager's choice fruit. Peanut butter rice crispy treat.
    FRIDAY — Choice of one: Pork roast with gravy or peanut butter and jelly sandwich pocket with American cheese stick. Choice of two: Mashed potatoes, manager's choice vegetable, pinto beans, sliced peaches or applesauce. Peanut butter cookie with chocolate chips.

  • High schoolers get realistic look at dangers of DUI
    Emergency personnel, students and others performed a dramatized DUI crash in front of juniors and seniors at CCHS to deter drunken driving at this weekend's prom. Here, Cumberland County EMS and Crossville firefighters tend to student Simone O'Dell.

  • Cumberland Countians for Peace and Justice donates books to libraries
    The Cumberland Countians for Peace and Justice organization recently donated economic and environmental books to Stone Memorial High School and the Cumberland County High School.

  • Health Fair at Stone High School draws hundreds
    Jeremy Tomolin (nearest) and Darrin Craig check out the Cumberland County EMS display the first Stone Memorial High School health fair. According to school nurse Connie Harvel, approximately 960 students divided into four groups attended the health fair on Friday. Harvel said the event is done in order to "let the students know about health-related services in community.

  • Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten registration set Friday
    Cumberland County schools will be holding kindergarten and pre-kindergarten registration Friday, April 4. Parents may register their child at the school he or she is zoned for on that date between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  • Korean War Veterans Association offering scholarships
    Chapter #297, Korean War Veterans Association, is offering two $500 scholarships to two 2008 graduating students from the Cumberland County high schools.
