PHOTO GALLERY: Class adjourns to the great outdoors

By Michael R. Moser / mmoser@crossville-chronicle.com

Shaylee Douglas of Martin Elementary School shows off the apple she picked from a tree after listening to a demonstration presented by Jim Hamby and Joel Green on grafting and growing fruit trees. Hundreds of third graders from Cumberland County elementary schools participated in the Cumberland County Farm Bureau Women's 16th annual Ag in the Classroom day held at The University of Tennessee Plateau Research and Education Center.

Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency Officer Casey Mullen talks to Homestead Elementary students about wildlife. Over a dozen stuffed native animals were displayed at a finger's touch, allowing students to see animals so up close that they normally would not have an opportunity to view.

Stone Elementary School students get a close-up view of sheep after listening to Emily Upchurch's presentation on the woolly farm animal.

Brenda Dodson (right) and Joseph Simpson (not pictured) talk about raising swine to the third-grade farm visitors. In this photo, Brenda shows the kids a picture of the family farm where hogs were raised.

Joel Green (white hat) and Jim Hamby talk to Martin Elementary students about how the little twig he is holding can be grafted with another to make a delicious apple producing tree.
