County Mayor Brock Hill, left, presents proclamation for the 28th annual Special Olympics to Arc President Lois Davis, far right. Dave Moore, center, Arc public awareness committee member, introduced Hill at the event. Davis thanked Kicks 106.9 and its staff for their support, giving a special thanks to Carole Ingram. The Arc would also thanked all the "huggers," volunteers and all contributors.
2004 Self Advocate of the Year, Brian Werner, sang the national anthem to kick off the events.
Michael Martin, 2007 Self Advocate of the Year, carried the torch during opening ceremonies. Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle showed her support for the athletes along with the new special education director, Keena Inman.
Three-year-old Isabella Jesus was the last athlete to carry the torch. The Homestead Elementary student was the youngest torch bearer for the event.

Special Olympic participants enjoyed a free meal at Burger King Sunday, Sept. 9. Arc President Davis would like to thank the store's owner, Joe Willmoth, managers and staff for serving lunch and supper.
