Football teams tuning up for season-opener Thursday

The annual Cumberland County Elementary football jamboree was played at Stone Memorial High School Saturday evening with four quarters of action. Crab Orchard defeated Pleasant Hill 24-0, Brown blanked North 14-0, Martin defeated Stone 20-6 and Homestead edged South 6-0 in the final seconds of play. The regular season begins Thursday.

The Martin Eagles defeated the Stone Coyotes 20-6 in the annual elementary jamboree played Saturday evening at Stone Memorial High School. Martin’s Aaron Boggs (10) heads toward the end zone for the Eagles. Stone’s Devin Baldwin (44) is in hot pursuit. Stone visits Brown Thursday in the ‘07 regular season opener at 4:30 p.m., while Martin hosts Homestead at 6:30 p.m. / (Click for larger image)


The Crab Orchard/Pine View Tigers shut out the Pleasant Hill Hornets 20-0 in the first quarter of the elementary jamboree Saturday night at SMHS. The Tigers’ Robert Triono (2) is stopped by Pleasant Hill’s Kenny Moore (11). The other Tigers are London Smith (9) and Brandon Cole (11). Pleasant Hill hosts North Thursday at 4:30 p.m., while Crab Orchard travels to South for a 4:30 p.m. game. / (Click for larger image)


The Brown Bears, defending county champions, defeated North 14-0 Saturday evening during the elementary jamboree at SMHS. North’s Dalton Delk (43) slows down a Bear running back. Patriot Nathan Wilson (21) and another teammate assist on the tackle. The other Patriot is Dakota Crain (33). The other Bear is Jared Swafford (70). The Homestead Bulldogs defeated the South Rebels 6-0 in the final seconds of the quarter Saturday night at SMHS. A Bulldog back is stopped by a host of Rebels. South will host Crab Orchard Thursday at 4:30 p.m., while Homestead visits Martin for a 6:30 p.m. game. / (Click for larger image)
