PHOTO GALLERY & LOCAL VIDEO: Pleasant Hill Academy marks 125 years

Alumni and friends celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Pleasant Hill Academy last weekend. The event took place at the Pleasant Hill Community House, where formers students enjoyed a picnic and chats with historical figures such as Father Dodge on Saturday and a potluck lunch and films on Sunday.

A few members of the community were eager to represent those who made a mark on the Pleasant Hill Academy. Dick Disseler, second from right, played the part of Father Dodge, who helped to establish the private elementary and boarding high school in 1884. He was joined by, from left, Bill Naumann as Professor Warren Wheeler, Iris Cole as Miss Petty and Pat Robbennolt as Emma Dodge.

Marie Suttle McGrath was among the oldest Pleasant Hill Academy alumni in attendance. A member of the class of 1934, she shared fond memories of her time at the school, where she met her husband, Frank.

Beryl Beam Rowland was the oldest alumni present for the celebration. The 96-year-old graduated with the class of 1930 and married a fellow student, Gains Rowland.

The event was held at the Pleasant Hill Community House, where alumni and friends enjoyed a delicious summer picnic and refreshments from a local Boy Scout troop.

The Brown Brothers, a bluegrass and gospel group, was among the featured performers for Saturday's celebration. Later in that evening, a group of folk dancers entertained the crowd.
