Chris South, assistant chief with the Crossville Fire Department, assisted with fighting the fire. According to Jeremy Newcome, five firefighters initially responded to the fire. Following a call for additional help, about 15 firefighters were on scene, with units responding from the Main Station in Crossville, Genesis Station, Mayland Station, Tansi Station and Homestead Station. / (Click for larger image)

The fire is believed to have started in the basement of an addition to the home, spreading to the second floor and into the attic. Newcome said the fire was accidental, but did not know what started the blaze. / (Click for larger image)

A firefighter vents the roof to let smoke escape and aid in saving the remainder of the structure. Once the fire was under control, Newcome said one firefighter had to remove his gear and take a truck to bring more water to put the fire out. The fire, which was reported in the mid-morning hours, left the firefighters with a shortage of hands to fight the blaze. / (Click for larger image)
