Our choices in life begin in early childhood. Parents and other family members are usually the first source of influence in forming our attitudes and opinions about others. Hatred, intolerance, racism, bigotry and sexism are things children learn. They are not born with them. Very young children don’t understand things like “love, compassion, integrity, tolerance, human decency and truth,” either. They are all taught! Unfortunately, ugly behaviors continue to contaminate our society and prevent Americans from truly becoming “United.” There is very little “brotherly love” in the U.S.
“They” (meaning conservative, extremely wealthy, college educated and, usually, heirs to earlier fortunes) use the generational prejudices of the less fortunate working middle and poorer classes to control politics for their own personal, financial advantage. “They” believe their “riches” give them the right to control America. As most of these folks (aka the 2%) vote Republican, they own the Republican Party of today, but own a number of Democrats, as well!
“They” have no real interest in anything that gets in the way of their goal to rule the United States. They have purchased their own propaganda sources (“FOX News”, for example) and use them to distort information to their advantage. They reinforce the continued prejudices in American culture and promote new ones!
It is impossible to believe that “they” (mostly white “superior” men) really care about abortion, gays, death penalties or the poor. However, they do know that many common folks do harbor strong, often prejudicial opinions on these “social issues,” and “they” play upon the prejudices of these people. What they really care about is having handpicked politicians elected to office who will protect “their” business interests by eliminating rules and regulations that prevent them from seizing dictatorial control through both legal and illegal activities. In the past 30 plus years, they have succeeded well.
Because of the nuisance of our voting rights, “they” still need to spend billions to win the elections for their puppets. They lie about their opponents (using their propaganda outlets), gerrymander districts (using their puppets) and enact “voter registration reform” to reduce the number of American citizens who are most likely to vote against them. (They claim this protects against non-existing frauds.) “They,” via their “news channel,” manipulate uninformed, naïve and prejudiced voters into voting against their own best interests.
As Newsroom’s Will McAvoy said: “I am a Republican! I believe in market solutions and I believe in common sense realities and the necessity to defend ourselves against a dangerous world. The problem is, I now need to be homophobic. I have to count the number of times people go to church. I have to deny facts and think scientific research is a long ‘con.’ I have to think poor people are getting a sweet ride and I have to have such a stunning, inferiority complex that I fear educational intellect in the 21st century. But most of all, the biggest and new requirement, and really the only requirement, is: I have to hate Democrats.”
Congressional puppets continue to get away with doing nothing to help the country out of the problems resulting from the Bush Administration’s misconduct and mismanagement. Domestic manufacturing jobs would cure most of today’s problems, but “they” have “theirs,” and care nothing about the remaining 98% of Americans, except how to continue to use them.
