STUMPTALK: Obama’s Ministry of Truth

CROSSVILLE — Obama and the federal Democrats like to try to shape our concept of reality by changing words and labels. The purpose is the same as that of Big Brother in the novel 1984. In the novel, by changing words the tyrannical party realized that they could limit the ability of the populace to engage in critical thought. The slogans of the Party were “ War Is Peace,” “Ignorance Is Strength” and “Freedom Is Slavery.” Big Brother named the propaganda office the “Ministry of Truth” or “Minitrue” along with the Ministry of Peace which concerned itself with war, the Ministry of Love which concerned itself with law and order and the Ministry of Plenty which dealt with economic affairs. Big Brother also developed “Newspeak” to further obfuscate the meaning of even common words. Thus the various ministries were called Minitrue, Minipax, Miniluv, and Miniplenty. This novel was the source of terms such as “Thought Police” which we recognize as “politically correct thinking” and “Doublethink” which we recognize today as an Obama speech.

The protagonist in this novel, Winston Smith, worked in the Ministry of Truth where it was his job to review historical and current documents and news articles to modify them to make sure that they were consistent with the Government’s current version of history and/or current events. Recently, Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson indicated that the term “federal unemployment welfare” should be changed to “federal Transitional Living Fund.” Remember when Obama wanted to get rid of the word “war” in favor of “kinetic military action”? Homeland Security wanted to change “terrorism” to “man–caused disasters.”

Instead of Doublespeak as it existed in the novel we have Obamaspeak, defined in the Urban Dictionary as 1.) “To say what you want whenever you want and whatever you say at the moment you say it is the truth” and 2.) “To report something as fact, then immediately turn around and report the opposite as fact.” Thus when a politician is criticized for having stated an incorrect fact he or she can readily point to the “fact” that they had stated just the opposite. For example, we are all familiar with “If you like the insurance plan you are on you can keep the insurance plan you are on. Period. If you like the doctor you are seeing you can keep the doctor you are seeing. Period.” Later Obama stated that what he really said was, “If you like the insurance plan you are on you can keep it provided it has not changed”. True? Especially for those instances in which he, the imperial president, had “granted” a waiver to entities such as unions, politicians, and businesses allowing them to keep their current insurance plans and physicians. Period.

I think we all remember when Obama promised that his would be the most “transparent” administration in history? That policy meetings and communications and records would be available without problem? We must admit that Obama has carried the concept of policy transparency to a new level. It has become, for the most part, downright invisible. We can all be thankful that the crisis of global warming has been averted, since according to the most recent report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) it is reported that they have been unable to identify any significant global warming for the past 17 years. See the IPCC assessment report (AR5). The new crisis appears to be the issue of climate change, rather than global warming, being another instance in which merely changing the name seems to change the thought process and keeps the federal money rolling in. The Obama Administration will use the IPCC to direct the Environmental Protection Agency to create policies and regulations that will further cripple energy production and he will attempt to have Congress pass restrictive regulations designed to hamstring energy development. He has already successfully destroyed the coal industry and, I am sure that he and his relevant agencies are working on creative means to hamstring energy development within the United States. As long as the fossil fuel industry is successful he will not be able to push his “renewable energy” program using those fantastic and successful new technologies such as wind power and solar energy. We know that the development of alternative and renewable energy technology has been successful (think Solyndra) because Obama’s Minitru has said so — until it reports the opposite.
