I am writing this just three days after the storm that ravaged the East Coast and reached into the Northeast and upper Midwest. It has been named the “Frankenstorm” because it coincided with Halloween. I am writing this in anticipation of the flood (pun intended) of Warmest Chicken Little articles that will inevitably hit the opinion page of this and other newspapers. Those articles will tell us the storm was unprecedented and constitutes proof that we humans are responsible due to our adulteration of our pristine atmosphere with carbon dioxide.
Al Gore has already been active in that regard, writing in his blog that “dirty energy makes dirty weather.” The problem that Gore and his acolytes confront is convincing the gullible that these weather patterns are indeed unprecedented.
For those of you who have difficulty with this concept, “unprecedented” means “without precedent”” or “never having happened before.” If there have been previous weather patterns like this, by definition, this was not an unprecedented event. Unfortunately for the Warmist argument, there is ample evidence that our recent Frankenstorm has many meteorological precedents, as recently as the “perfect storm” of 1991 (then called the “Halloween Nor’easter”) that pounded New England, the 120mph hurricane of 1938 that hit New York and New England (then named “The Long Island Express”) and the “Great September Gale” of 1821. Sediment core samples show that the Frankenstorm surge was exceeded in the New England hurricanes of 1635 and 1638.
The United States has had no Category 3 hurricanes since 2005 (Hurricane Wilma) and the 7-year absence of stronger hurricanes is the longest in a century. Even Gore’s concept of global warming has failed. Data released by the Met Office (England) in early October shows that there has been no “discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures” since the beginning of 1997. Funny, the New York Times didn’t mention that the world stopped getting warmer over 16 years ago. Al didn’t report that either.
The real and identifiable human cause of destruction in this instance lies in our attempt to expand land into the sea. King Neptune apparently resents invasion, and ultimately reclaims what is his. Examination of the original maps of Manhattan (1776) and the flood zone (“Zone A”) of the hurricane evacuation map (2012) shows areas of Manhattan expanded by landfill. Structures built in zone A would have been under water in 1776. Now many of them are showing that human hubris does insult nature, but not in the way Al Gore-ites would have us believe. I would have at least some respect for Gore-ites if they at least attempted to interpret real data.
That begs the question. What do Gore and his followers get out of this? Why is it so important for Gore-ites to stampede the gullible? Well, follow the money! The politicians want the tax money from cap-and-trade, and Gore-ites want the money from his “investment” firm. The firm (General Investment Management) was co-founded in 2004 by Al Gore and investment banker David Blood. The tongue in cheek name on the street is obvious … Blood and Gore.
In the new carbon market, carbon dioxide emissions would be set at an upper limit (capped) for a particular company. If that company does not use the limit, it can sell (trade) the remaining permits on the commodities market. Enter Blood and Gore. In the real commodities market, a commodity must, at some point, be physically transferred (oil, gas, wheat, etc.) to someone. Now read this carefully. As described by investigative reporter Mark Shapiro in a 2010 Harpers Magazine article (Conning the climate: Inside the carbon-trading shell game) “…the carbon market is based on the lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no one.” What a perfect setup for a grifter. You just have to convince the mark (politicians and voters) of the value of the scam to make a score, and in this case the value will be established by the passage of the Cap-and-Trade bill.
None of the marks (us) will even know they have been scammed until everyone realizes that the global warming panic has been a setup and all of the money exchanged was based on a scientific fantasy. Blood and Gore stand to make billions. It will be unprecedented. The billions lost due to Frankenstorm will be a drop in the bucket.
