Prior to working for cable contractors in California and New York, he lived in Florida working with Hubbard's Marina—John's Pass on Madeira Beach FL, enjoying the best days of his life, fishing and getting paid to help other people catch that one trophy fish.

He was a graduate of Cumberland County High School.

Lyon; three children, Perry Grant Sherrer, Hannah Marie Sherrer and their mother, Blair Savage, and Perrianna Sherrer Evans, all of Crossville; and four sisters, Kristi Sherrer Nixon of Carthage, TN, Tammy K. Oakes of Greenville, SC, Barbetta Sherrer Saffold and Deanna Sherrer, both of Montgomery, AL.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a trust fund (Sherrer Children's Fund) established for Jody's surviving children in care of the Crossville Chronicle, 125 West Ave., Crossville, TN 38555.
