March 7, 1934 — Jan. 18, 2013
On Jan. 18, 2013, the most kind hearted man you will ever meet went home to a well deserved, hard fought, peace. When you describe a man , you usually talk about how he made his living and his hobbies. But Bunk was the kind of man who inspires you to talk about the person he was. His heart was huge and open to everyone. He truly never met a stranger. If you needed help, he was there. He dearly loved his wife, his family and his friends, of which there were many. Bunk was always ready for a good time, or a good joke. As a husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, or in-law there are few that could compare. Truly he will be missed by all he touched and he will remain in our hearts forever.
Bunk was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ernestine and Clarence, brother Bob, niece and nephew Stacey (Wolfe) Ruge and Chris G. Wolfe and his mother and father-in-law Deil and Louie Smit.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Smit) of Crossville, TN; sister, Sharma Stahl of Clarksville, MI; brother, John (Peg) Wolfe of Kentwood, MI; and sister, Jayma (Tom) Kurnat of Byron Center, MI; sister-in-law, Laura Smit of Bradenton, FL and Cadillac, MI; brother-in-law, Bob Smit of Mt. Pleasant, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
With just a high school education, Bunk started working for NASA in 1959 and worked his way up to Branch Chief on the Shuttle. He retired in 1989 and he and Barb started travelling all over the country. In 1996, they settled in Crossville, TN, going between there, Michigan and Florida.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Bunk would like any memorials, in his name, to be given to Hospice of St. Francis, 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780 or to the SPCA of Titusville.

Science says the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. We can’t easily comprehend that many years, or exactly how the early earth was formed into a stony ball of space debris. Surface water may have arrived on Earth in icy comets.
