Richard J. “Rick” Hirsch, formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away May 25, 2013, in Crossville. He was 87.
Rick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Therese, in 2004.
He will be sadly missed by his five children, Kathleen (Michael) Coyle, Robert (Nancy) Hirsch, Nancy (Robert) Mollencopf, Terry (Cathleen) Hirsch and Michael (Janie) Hirsch; his five beloved grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin) Vanden Berge, Anne Hirsch, Nicole Mollencopf, Matthew Hirsch and Jonathon Hirsch; and many nieces and nephews and their children. Rick’s brother, Ted, and sister, Betty, also predeceased him.
Rick will be remembered as being a man of strong principles and having a huge heart.
Even after suffering some physical setbacks a few years ago, he continued to describe himself as “lucky” and he maintained that positive attitude to the very end of his life.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific on the USS Houston.
Rick worked in the auto industry for 40 plus years, initially for General Motors and later for Volkswagen of America. After his retirement from Volkswagen, Rick was a quality assurance consultant with Purchase Parts Group for several years.
After his retirement, he and Therese relocated from Michigan to Fairfield Glade, Tenn, where they enjoyed making many new friends and of course, playing golf.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 7503 Peavine Rd., Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m.

April Marie Parker, 35, of Crossville, passed away at her home April 19, 2014. Funeral service will be today, April 23, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Ralph Reagan officiating. Burial will follow in Woody Cemetery.
Charles M. Lovitt, 77, of Crossville, passed away April 6, 2014, at Kindred Care Rehab in Algood. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. from the Chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Pastor Robert Krueger will officiate.
David Franklin King, 72, Crossville, passed away on April 18, 2014, at his home. Funeral service will be today, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Donald Wattenbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Tolletts Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. William D. Methvin passed away March 31, 2014, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.
Dannie Glen Lowe, 61, of Crossville, passed away April 16, 2014 at Cumberland Medical Center. Family will receive friends today, April 18, at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Bro. Bradley Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Rinnie Cemetery.
William Edward Day, 89, of Crab Orchard, passed away April 14, 2014, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. Funeral services were held April 17, with Bro. Bob Hawkins officiating.
Thurman McKinley Mutter, 83, of Crossville, TN passed away on March 10, 2014, at Cumberland Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home.
Jennie Louise May, 82, of Crossville, passed away April 12, 2014, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Funeral serivces will be held Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lanita Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Black Oak Cemetery.
James Lesley England, 92, of Sparta, passed away April 14, 2014, at his residence.
