Warner Siebert

CROSSVILLE — Warner Holman Siebert, "Zeb," 80, passed away May 24, 2012, at his home in Pleasant Hill. At his request, services will be private with no visitation. A celebration of his life will be announced by the family at a later date.

He was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, MO. His parents were the Rev. Warner and Pauline (Bahnke) Siebert. He was married June 15, 1954, to Joyce Johnson of Chicago, IL. He completed a Bachelor's of Arts from Elmhurst College in 1953, a Bachelor of Divinity from Garrett Theological Seminary in 1957, a Master of Divinity from Garrett in 1968 and a Doctor of Ministry from Eden Theological Seminary in 1978. In 1988, he was honored with a Doctor of Divinity from Heidelberg College.

Warner was ordained in 1957 in the United Church of Christ. He served the UCC congregations St. Paul in Deerfield, IL, St. John in Beecher, IL, St. Mark in Chicago Heights, IL, St. Paul in Chelsea, MI, Zion in North Canton, OH, Trinity in Tiffin, OH, and First Congregational in Owosso, MI. After 37 years, the Rev. Dr. Siebert retired in 1994 and moved to Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill and Lakeland, FL.

He was a life-long Detroit Tigers fan. Warner was a professional pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinal organization and umpired high school and college baseball games for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed camping, tennis and listening to classical music, especially the pipe organ.

Among his accomplishments, Warner was the founding president of the adoption agency Spaulding for Children in Michigan; president of Tiffin, OH, Kiwanis Club, and president the Upper Cumberland Mac Users Group in Pleasant Hill.

Warner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce. He was father of Stephen, Baltimore, MD, Pamela Dyer and husband, Rick, of St. Joseph, MI, Leslie of Honey Brook, PA, and Susan Engle and husband, Matt, of Pickerington, OH. His grandchildren include Warner and Stephanie Siebert, Andrew and Timothy Dyer, and Turner, Carson and Riley Engle. He is also survived by a sister, Marjorie Herrscher and husband, Walter, of Green Bay, WI.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 East Adams St., Crossville, TN 38555, or the Warner H. Siebert Sr. Scholarship at Eden Theological Seminary, 475 E. Lockwood Ave., St. Louis, MO 63119-3192. He established this scholarship in his father's memory.

The family would like to specially thank Hospice of Cumberland County and Uplands Home Health.
