Dewey Cripps

CROSSVILLE — Dewey Dawes “D.D.” Cripps, 87, of Naperville, IL, formerly of Crossville, passed away April 27, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A private service was held April 30 at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home in Naperville, IL.

He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Dry Creek, to the late William Shelia and Tassie Belle (Farler) Cripps. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Horswill and husband, Art; brothers, Shelia Berry Cripps and James Cripps; a grandson, Darin Dawes Cripps; special niece, Brenda Kay Horswill; and special great-nephew, Jason Neil Morgan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret Ann (Prichard) Cripps; sister, Jean Welch and husband, Jerry, of Crossville; son, David Cripps and wife, Alice, of Hermitage; daughter, Suanne Esposito and husband, Mark, of Naperville, IL; granddaughters, Rebecca Ann Tabor and Alason Margaret Cripps; grandson, Robert John Jennings; step-granddaughters, Brittany Nicole Esposito and Kristin Beverly Esposito; step-grandson, Josh Grettenberg and wife, Jaime; great-granddaughters, Alyssa May Braun, Joy Diane Grettenberg and soon to be born Isabelle Oce’Anne Tabor; and several nieces and nephews.

D.D. held various leadership positions in the United Methodist Church Conference. He was a local businessman in Crossville, owning the original White’s Auto Store. He later owned a milk distributorship and, before retirement, contracted with the state of Tennessee for janitorial servicing of state rest areas. D.D. loved maintaining his yard and took pride in its appearance. He always kept a vegetable garden and loved working with his hands. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, often taking his son hunting and his daughter fishing.

He will be remembered most for his kindness to others, his generosity, his dedication to his church and family, and his keen sense of business knowledge.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of choice in memory of D.D. Cripps.

Carnevale Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Science says the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. We can’t easily comprehend that many years, or exactly how the early earth was formed into a stony ball of space debris. Surface water may have arrived on Earth in icy comets.
