Vena Maude Kemmer, 89, of Crossville, passed away May 8, 2014. Funeral services were held May 10 at Homestead United Methodist Church. The Rev. Monica Mowdy, Jon Goodwin, Christopher Poland and Jeremy Carver officiated, with burial in Grassy Cove Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Fentress County, the daughter of Bart and Dosha Stockton Kemmer. She worked many years as a supervisor at Roselon Southern and was also a member of Homestead United Methodist Church. She was a very active lady and greatly dedicated to her family. She also loved playing cards with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jane Poland and her husband, Sonny, of Crossville, and Brenda Kaye Pennington and her husband, Paul, also of Crossville; grandchildren, Salissa Carver and her husband, Jeremy, Christopher Poland, Kemmerlee Pennington and John Paul Davis Pennington; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kaylee Carver. She also leaves a very loving and caring group of caregivers whom the family greatly appreciates, Barbie Brown, Ruth Holman, Sandy Markee, Jan Dunbar, Cathy Jones, Jennifer O'Neal and Constance Spieles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Davis S. Kemmer; brothers, Ervin Jones and Bart Jones Jr.; and sisters, Dorothy Wheaton, Gladys York, Bernice Norman and Beryle Shadowens.
Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were John Paul Pennington, Christopher Poland, Scott Lansford, Mike Jones, William Boalick, Reggie Rowell, Jimmy Kemmer, Roger York, Bobby Randolph, John York, Gaines Lansford, Jim Kemmer, Danny Kemmer, Hank Kemmer, Pit Kemmer and Randy York.
The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Homestead United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the Grassy Cove Community House.
Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Nelson Sherrill, 82, of Pikeville, passed away July 24, 2014. Funeral services were held July 26 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro. Chip Winstead officiated, with burial in Walker Cemetery.
Mary Margaret Ives Haack passed away July 27, 2014 in Crossville. She resided at Fairfield Glade Assisted Living near her daughter. She was 98. Memorial services for Mary will be in Muncie, IN.

Harvey Alvis Derrick, 91, of the Grassy Cove community, passed away July 22, 2014. Funeral services were held July 26 at Grassy Cove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Martha Hale and the Rev. Monica Mowdy officiated, with burial in Hedgecoth Cemetery.

Opal Pauline Hassler, 68, of Crossville, passed away July 23, 2014, at Cumberland Medical Center. Funeral services were held at chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home July 26, 2014, with Bro. Mike Kerley and Bro. Ryan Overfelt officiating and internment in Crossville City Cemetery.
Ruth Vicory Yoakum was born on May 9, 1912, to Wilma Pearl McCreary and Walter Carpenter Yoakum in Leavenworth, KS. She passed away on July 17, 2014, at the Wharton Homes at Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill. There will be a service of the worship of God in her memory at the Pleasant Hill Community Church in Pleasant Hill at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
William “Bill” Fancher Graham, 70, of Crossville, passed away peacefully at home July 19, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with malignant lymphoma. Funeral services were held July 22 at Main St. Church of Christ. Bro. Barry Kennedy and Bro. Larry McDuffee officiated, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

Dr. Charles Edward Brookhart passed away July 21, 2014, in Overland Park, KS. He was 85.
