Thomas H. Matney, 70, of Pikeville, passed away Oct. 1, 2013. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., with Bro. Hubert Thurman and Bro. Andy Smith officiating. The family received friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and will continue receiving friends from noon to 8 p.m. today, Friday. Burial will be in the Collier Cemetery.
Tom was a godly man, and was of the Church of God faith. He was a logger by trade. Some of Tom’s favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, training mules, spending time with family and attending singings. He was also a four-time state Grand Champion in rabbit hunting. He was a member of the United Kennel Club.
Tom was born in Truman, AR, Feb. 28, 1943, to the late Melburn and Maxine Matney. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; brothers, Doug, Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny Matney; and a sister, Barbara Matney.
He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Thelma Matney; son, Thomas Corey (Kimberly) Matney; daughters, Crystal (Daniel) Schmidt of Crossville, Joy (Leon) Presley and Charity (Scott) McCloud; brothers, Gary (Diane) Matney of Truman, AR, and Mike Matney of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Doris (Boyd) Holloway of Rock Island, WA, and Sandra Baker of Crossville; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends and singing buddies.

Michael Joshua Caughorn-Reed, 24, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 4, 2013. A private funeral service was held Dec. 9, 2013, with longtime family friend, Pastor Ralph Reagan, officiating.
Anna Schorman passed away peacefully on Dec. 6 at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill after a brief illness. There will be a memorial service Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Community Church.
Merel Hickey, 58, of Spring City, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 9, 2013. The family received friends Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. EST, at Evans Mortuary. Funeral service will be today, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. EST, with the Rev. Larry Long officiating. Interment and burial will follow the service in Glen Allice Cemetery in Rockwood.
Kenneth Eugene Applegate, 52, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 7, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Funeral services were held Dec. 10 at Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Mack Ballard and Bro. Chip Meadows officiating. Interment was in Newton Cemetery.
Earle Phillips Jr.
Earle Phillips Jr., born Columbus, OH, 1922, passed away Nov. 29, 2013, in Atlanta, GA. A memorial service is planned for early spring at the Fairfield Glade Methodist Church in Fairfield Glade. It will be announced at a later date.
Barbara Ann (Stuhlmacher) Heeschen, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 1, 2013, after a 20-year struggle with heart disease and ensuing complications.
William C. "Bill" West, 86, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 1, 2013. Funeral services were held Dec. 4 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Kerley officiated, with special music by Jessi West.

Dear, beloved son, brother, uncle, father and friend Christopher Lynn Dishman was born Sept. 21, 1970, in Muncie, IN, to Steve and Janet Dishman. The Lord and Savior took him Dec. 8, 2013. Family will receive friends today, Dec. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday 1 p.m. with Bro. Donnie Bell officiating. Burial will be in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

Joyce Burgess Croft, 70, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 5, 2013. Funeral services were held Dec. 8 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Pastor Steven Pickard and Pastor Matt Jones officiated, with burial in the Allen Burgess Cemetery.
