Clarence R. Bates

Oct. 16, 1933 — Aug. 27, 2007

Clarence Ray Bates, 73, of Cookeville, passed away Aug. 27, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 30 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home of Cookeville, with the Rev. Ron Phillips and the Rev. Josh Hodum officiating. Burial followed in Creston Cemetery in Crossville.

Mr. Bates was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Bemis, TN, the son of the late Clarence A. and Margaret (Cox) Bates.

He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Cookeville. He was a church board member and an adult Bible class teacher for many years. He spent his working years as an accountant prior to his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly R. Bates of Cookeville; daughters and sons-in-law, Emily Gail and Chuck Webster of Mt. Juliet, Donna R. and Claude Knowles of Crossville and Janet M. and Robert McClung of Franklin, KY; granddaughters, Cara H. Webster of Nashville and Callie N. Webster of Mt. Juliet; grandsons, Andy McClung and Chad McClung of Franklin, KY, Scott T. Webster of Mt. Juliet and Donathan T. Knowles of Cookeville; great-grandson, Anthony K. Webster of Mt. Juliet; and special cousins, Joyce, Loyce, Ruth, Wayne and Freida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Tom Templeton, Buford Hopper, Norman Smith, Ridley Smith, Jerry Hayes and Ralph Phy.

Phyllis A. Burgess

Jan. 1, 1952 — Aug. 23, 2007

Phyllis Ann Burgess, 55, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 23, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 26 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Terry Barnwell officiating. Burial was in Allen Burgess Cemetery.

Mrs. Burgess was born Jan. 1, 1952, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Oscar and Bobby Jean Lewis Webb.

She worked alongside her husband, Doyle, as co-owner of Kitchens Plus. She was a wonderful woman whose creativity and sensitivity were shared among the many who were fortunate to have known her. She spent precious time and energy doing the things that are often left to others, like helping the elderly and baking pies for family and friends. She loved to fish and found much joy in sharing those experiences with children. Her natural ability to organize enabled her to be the best at each and every endeavor she pursued. Her love and laughter will be cherished forever in the hearts of family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle Burgess of Crossville; son, Brady W. Burgess of Crossville; daughter, Darby A. Belvin of Crossville; grandchildren, Drystin A. Belvin and Dreytin G. Belvin; and stepfather, Balos Davis of Crossville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Webb.

Bertha I. Hedgecoth

April 14, 1926 — Aug. 25, 2007

Bertha Irene Hedgecoth, 81, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 25, 2007. A graveside service was held Aug. 28 at Hedgecoth Cemetery.

Ms. Hedgecoth was born April 14, 1926, in Crossville, the daughter of John Hedgecoth Sr. and Annie (Kerley) Hedgecoth.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her sisters, Cora Hall and Alma Griffin of Crossville; and brothers, Stanley Hedgecoth, John Hedgecoth Jr. and Douglas Hedgecoth, all of Crossville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ann Hedgecoth; and brother, Ernest Hedgecoth.

Delmar H. Huggler

Sept. 28, 1926 — Aug. 24, 2007

Delmar Howard Huggler, 80, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 24, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 27 from Crossville First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Dale Bailey officiating. Music was by David Overholt and John Keetch. Full military honors were given.

Mr. Huggler was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Alpena, MI, the son of George and Margaret Cramer Huggler.

He was a physical chemist and an active member of the Crossville First Church of the Nazarene. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a Fairfield Glade volunteer fireman for over 15 years, Destroyer Escorts member, a gold medal recipient at the Senior Olympics and a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Huggler of Fairfield Glade; son, Steven (Ami) Huggler of Lynnville, IN; daughter, Kari (Thomas) Ogreen of Ada, MI; and grandchildren, Samuel, Jonathan, Zachary, Joseph, Isaac, Olivia and Abigail.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donnalene Bauer.

Pallbearers were Ray Brooks, Tom Rosenbergh, Bill White, Jay Damron, Denver Hoskins and Jim Schwind of the Fairfield Glade Volunteer Fire Department.

Richard H. Lintelman

July 26, 1938 — Aug. 21, 2007

Richard H. Lintelman, 69, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 21, 2007. Private memorial services were held by the family at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Mr. Lintelman was born July 26, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Henry and Florence Myszewski Lintelman.

He was a retired sales manager with Emerson Electric and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Lintelman of Fairfield Glade; mother, Florence Lintelman of Tulsa, OK; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Willing and Michael Kwasnik Jr. of Chattanooga and Karen Richardt of Chicago; and grandson, Forest Willing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Lintelman.

Wilma Pete

Oct. 5, 1928 — Aug. 26, 2007

Wilma (Werner) Pete, 78, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 26, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 28 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Harvey officiating. Graveside committal was held Aug. 29 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Pete was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Germany, the daughter of Franz J. and Marie (Greubel) Werner.

She was a florist and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Survivors include her devoted companion, Earl Huneke of Crossville; and caregiver, Thelma Cooper of Crossville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell B. Pete; and sister, Agnes Ferares.

The family requests donations to Hospice of Cumberland County or to the American Cancer Society.

Gordon B. Stewart

Feb. 26, 2007

Gordon B. Stewart, 42, son of Fairfield Glade residents David and Shirley Stewart, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 26, 2007, in Reno, NV. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m., at Grace Evangelical Fellowship on Peavine Road. Friends of the family are welcome.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Becky; her son, Jordon; his mother-in-law, Jan Henrikson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Carole Stewart of St. Louis, MO, and Kevin and Diane Stewart of Dallas, TX; plus five beloved nieces and nephews.

Gordon and Becky lived in the Crossville area for a short time before moving west.

Dennis N. Wyatt

June 4, 1953 — Aug. 25, 2007

Dennis Norman Wyatt, 54, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 25, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 27 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Gary Hargis officiating. Burial was held Aug. 28 in Thomas Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Wyatt was born June 4, 1953, in Cumberland County, the son of Clay Evans Wyatt and Ova Lewis Wyatt.

He was an electrician and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his brothers, Donald Wyatt and Delmar Wyatt of Crossville, Douglas Wyatt of Knoxville and Carlos Dewey Wyatt of Grandview; sisters, Roxie Cantley of Ohio and Peggy Welch of Crossville; and best friends, Ricky and Cheri Loshbough.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Maxine Griffin Wyatt; brothers, Charles, Ralph, Dexter and TC (Jr.); and sister, Essie Simmons.
