Chester V. Austin
Sept. 23, 1915 — July 16, 2007
Chester Venton Austin, 91, of Crossville, passed away July 16, 2007. Funeral services were conducted July 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Leslie Hickey officiating. Interment was in Akins Cemetery.
Mr. Austin was born Sept. 23, 1915, in White County, the son of William Henry and Ida (Sapp) Austin.
He was retired as a carpenter and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Velma Pauline (Edmonds) Austin of Crossville; daughters, Elaine Reynolds of Crossville, Linda Hennelly of Crossville, Sharon Brown of Cleveland, Dana Olaechea of Crossville and Lana Austin of Crossville; sons, Steve Austin and Brad Austin of Crossville; sister, Beulah Johnson of Sparta; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Kay Watson; son, Venton Dexter Austin; sister, Lily McCormick; and brothers, Estel Austin and Gordon Austin.
Pallbearers were Jacob Austin, Eric Reynolds, Alan Reynolds, Tyler Watson, Jerry Austin, Dillon Watson, Joe McGraw and Dal Brown.
Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
Rita C. Y. Braswell
Sept. 6, 1955 — July 16, 2007
Rita Carol Young Braswell, 51, of Crossville, passed away July 16, 2007. Funeral services were conducted July 18 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Ralph Reagan officiating.
Mrs. Braswell was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Crossville.
Before becoming ill, she worked at CoLinx as a distribution specialist. She loved the outdoors, exploring and fishing.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald E. Braswell; children, Kerry R. Dishman II, Nicholas A. Braswell and Nicole Boniol; grandchildren, Richard Lee Dishman, Damion Alexander Dishman, Alidia Dawn Dishman and Jordan Dione Boniol; mother, Priscilla Ann (Pat) Wells; brothers, Rick, Mike and Ronald Young; and sisters, Sandra Scarbrough, Theresa Young, Ruby Wiebusch and Ruth Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Bobby J. Wells; brother, Taff S. "Bimbo" Young; and father, Orven Lee Young.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bread of Life Rescue Mission or Hospice of Cumberland County.

Mildred P. M. Brewer
Jan. 16, 1928 — July 17, 2007
Mildred Pauline McBroom Brewer, 79, of Spencer, TN, passed away July 17, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Hunter Funeral Home of Sparta, with Morris Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Springs Cemetery in Crossville.
Mrs. Brewer was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Akron, OH, the daughter of Oliver and Maude Bolin McBroom.
She was a factory worker.
Survivors include her husband, William R. Brewer of Spencer; sons and daughters-in-law, Martin Henry and Sylvia Brewer of Portland, TN, Michael Robert and Alma Brewer of Austin, TX and Oliver Vern and Joy Brewer of Nashville; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Mark Griffith and Polly Brewer, all of Nashville; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Teddy A. Brock
Dec. 29, 1951 — July 13, 2007
Teddy Alan Brock, 55, of Cookeville, formerly of Crossville, passed away July 13, 2007. Funeral services were conducted July 16 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Pastor Carlos Walker officiating. Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery with full military honors given.
Mr. Brock was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Cumberland County, the son of Cecil Lewis and Mary Rice Brock.
He was employed as a machinist with Flowserve in Cookeville and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam. He loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed playing chess. The love he shared with his granddaughter and the joy she brought to his life was a gift beyond compare.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Blaylock Brock of Crossville; son, Teddy Alan Brock II and wife Wendy of Tyler, TX; brothers, Starling Brock of Corsicana, TX, Cecil Hillis Brock of Mt. Sidney, VA, Tony Lee Brock and Nathan Brock of Crossville; sisters, Ellegia Kirkland of Crossville and Carolyn Walker of Crab Orchard; and granddaughter, Kelly Lauran Brock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Ruth Daugherty; and brothers, Donald and Dewey Brock.
Pallbearers were Daniel Walker, David Dixon, Michel Robertson, Matt Kirkland, Daniel Copeland and Donald Brock.

Josephine Brown
Sept. 20, 1930 — July 17, 2007
Josephine Brown, 76, of Mayland, passed away July 17, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with the Rev. James Ford officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayland Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Putnam County, the daughter of Fayette and Fannie Neely Walker.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Randy Harris of Crossville, Missy Hall of Crossville, Shirley and Edward Norrod of Mayland and Joyce and Phillip Cantrell of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Dewayne Norrod, Beverly Ratcliff, Melanie Mosteller, Wesley Hall, Dee Baisley and Angela Conley; great-grandchildren, Kody Ratcliff, Kyle Ratcliff, Summer Mosteller, Levi Mosteller, Gage Mosteller, Lainey Mosteller, Angel Conley, Anthony Conley, Alyssa Conley and Aaron Conley; sisters, Marie Leonard of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lillian Jones of Perrysburg, OH; and brothers, Eugene Walker of Beaver Creek, OH and Joseph Walker of McMinnville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brown; sisters, Myrtle Randolph and Lois Walker; and brothers, Aaron and Ervin Walker.

James C. Howard Sr.
Aug. 1, 1927 — July 11, 2007
James Coyle Howard Sr., 79, of Crossville, passed away July 11, 2007. Funeral services were conducted July 13 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Garrett officiating. Burial was in Kubley Cemetery in Lancing, TN.
Mr. Howard was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Lancing, TN, the son of Robert and Nola England Howard.
Before retiring, he was an air conditioning mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith, an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anna Mae Moon Howard of Crossville; children, Robert C. Howard of Ballground, GA, Jo Ann Matthews, James Howard Jr. and Buddy Howard, all of Crossville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margie Fields of Deerlodge and Bobbie Linkey of Freemont, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
