Kenneth R. Davis
June 12, 1916 — May 23, 2007
Kenneth R. Davis, 90, of the Vandever community, passed away May 23, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 25 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Steve Watts officiating. Burial was in New Era Cemetery in the Vandever community.
Mr. Davis was born June 12, 1916, in Cumberland County, one of ten children (five boys and five girls) of Joe E. and Ellie Davis.
He was a retired farmer and served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Josephine Davis and Herman and Ruby Wyatt Davis, all of Crossville; sister, Hattie Davis Reed of Harriman; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude and Kermit Davis; sisters, Tressie Frady, Etta Koger, Alma Ledbetter and Nettie Summers; and sister-in-law, Dorotha Davis.
Pallbearers were J.C. Davis, Jack Davis, Joe Bryant Koger, Calvin Davis Jr., Tony Davis Sr. and Tony Davis Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were J.E. Davis and Kevin Davis.

Robert Franklin Foutch
May 10, 1931 — May 26, 2007
Robert Franklin Foutch, 76, of Crossville, TN, passed away May 26, 2007. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro. Vern Daugherty will officiate. Burial will follow in Crossville City Cemetery.
He was born May 10, 1931, in Dekalb County, TN, the son of Clyde and Ruby Lee Lawrence Foutch. He retired after 30 years of service with the Tennessee Highway Patrol as a lieutenant. He also served several years as chief of police and judicial commissioner.
Mr. Foutch was a member of many organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police and Retired Police Chiefs Association. He was also a U.S. Army veteran having served during Korea and a member of Haley's Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He also loved riding four-wheelers and horseback riding.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Foutch, of Crossville; daughters Becky Gilley and husband, David, Donna Gilley and husband, Eric, and Robin Miles and husband, Greg, all of Crossville; brother Danny Foutch and wife, Charlene, of Mt. Juliet, TN; sisters Ann Summers, Pat Keith and Brenda Taylor, all of Smithville, TN and Judy Parsley and husband, Larry, of Lenoir City, TN; grandchildren, Sara Patterson and husband, Zack, Jesse, Samantha, Robbie, Ben and Shelby Miles, Erica and Stephanie Gilley; and great-grandchildren, Braxton and Briley Bridges and Kynden and Rylan Patterson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jackie and Larry Foutch.
Pallbearers will be Larry Parsley, Stephen Parsley, Zack Patterson, Scott Foutch, Brad Taylor and Buddy Morris Judkins. Honorary pallbearers will be David Beaty, Jerry Beaty, Ted Swafford, Jackie Stevens, Larry Hamilton, Darrell Sherrill, Donald Threet, Ed Barnwell and Larry Sherrill.

Katherine K. Fraser

Katherine K. Fraser, 80, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away May 22, 2007. Memorial services were held May 24, 2007, at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. The Rev. Max Mayo and the Rev. Lanita Pride officiated.
She was born Oct. 7, 1926 in White Castle, LA, the daughter of Henry Carleton and Katherine Patricia King. She was from an old New Orleans family and was reared there as well as Covington, LA. She attended Southwestern University in Lafayette, LA, and later married James Stephens. Two issues were born of this marriage, James Scott Stephens and Katherine Mary Stephens. Her second marriage was to Jack Emory Fraser who preceded her in death in 2006.
She is survived by her son Scott Stephens and daughter Katherine Mary Stephens, both of San Diego, CA; brother Rivers Richardson King of New Orleans, LA; sister Barbara King Baugh of Decatur, AL; nephew Robert Richardson Baugh of Birmingham; nieces Cynthia Baugh Olsson of Birmingham and Margaret King Bruce of New Orleans; great-nephews Richard King Baugh and Christopher Lars Olsson of Birmingham and Rivers Bruce of New Orleans; and great-nieces Julia Ann Olsson of Birmingham and Rachel Bruce of New Orleans.

Patricia Hall
April 21, 1951 — May 23, 2007
Patricia "Pattye" Hall, 56, of Crossville, TN, passed away May 23, 2007.
She was born April 21, 1951, in Nashville, TN, the daughter of William Edward Jr. and Wilma Ellney Gammon Wilson. Funeral services were held May 26 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronnie Pittenger officiated.
She was the owner of Checker Cab Co. in Crossville. Being the avid UT Vols fan she was, her cabs were the infamous colors of orange and white. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Womans Club, board member of the Cumberland County Family Shelter and worked with the Avalon Center in Cumberland County.
She was kind and generous, always lending a helping hand to anyone she could. Everyone that knew Pattye loved and appreciated her and she will be greatly missed in our community.
She is survived by her mother, Wilma Wilson of Crossville; sons Terry Mapes and wife, Cathie, of Nashville, and Scott and Donald Mapes, both of Crossville; daughter Christy Mapes of Crossville; brother, Billy Wilson and wife, Cindy, of Cookeville; half-sister Pamela Smith and husband, Bobby, of Kentucky; and grandson, Spencer Mapes.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Eugene Hall.

Nora Lou Hargis
Dec. 17, 1916 — May 23, 2007
Nora Lou Johnson Hargis, 90, of Crossville, passed away May 23, 2007 at Cumberland Medical Center after suffering a heart attack Friday, May 18, 2007. Funeral services were held Friday, May 25, at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with burial held Saturday at Green Acres memory Gardens. The Rev. Brian Smith of the Homesteads Baptist Church officiated the services.
She was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Davidson, Fentress County, Tennessee, to the late Frank Johnson and Martha Cathern Phipps Johnson. She married Grover Lee Hargis Oct. 5, 1933. They were married almost 40 years before his death may 27, 1973.
Mrs. Hargis lived in the Homestead area for the past 58 years. Her parents and family were among the original Homestead families in this area. She was a member of the Baptist Church and she attended the Homesteads Baptist Church. Mrs. Hargis was a former employee of Guide Lamp in Anderson, IN, and Roselon Southern in Crossville. She is better known for owning and operating a café in the Homestead area and owning and operating Nora's Fabric Shop in her home for a number of years. She closed the fabric shop at the young age of 75 to spend more time with her family and to do what she loved best. She loved nothing better than to cook for her family and friends and to spend time with them. She cooked her last Sunday lunch for family and friends the Sunday before she went into the hospital with a heart attack on Friday night. Friday morning she attended to another of her passions which was to yard sale with her best friend, Janis. Other things she enjoyed doing was gardening, canning and freezing her harvest. It has been said of her that she never knew a stranger, and that her door was always open, and that she always had something good to eat to share with all. She loved her family better than life itself and often said "they were her crown."
She is survived by her sister, Daisy Binkley of Goodlettesville; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Johnson of Oak Ridge and Ann Johnson of Crossville; one daughter and son-in-law, Loletta and Larry Clouse of Knoxville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Hargis of the Homestead Community, Frank and Bettie Hargis of Lenoir City, and Ed and Marie Hargis of the Linary Community; eight grandchildren and spouses: Keith and Carol Hargis, Karen and Anthony Graham, Gary and Gay Hargis, Donna and Rick Walker, Mark and Paula Hargis, Rodger and Starla Hargis, Michael David Hargis and Shawn Clouse; fifteen great-grandchildren and spouses, Danny Caldwell, Tiffany Caldwell, Joshua and Rachel Hargis, Regina Hargis, Christopher Hargis, Amanda DeLoach Walker, Samantha DeLoach Walker, Memory and Wally Tabor, Rebecca Cox, Erik Hargis, Kristin Hargis, Tyler Douglas, Alex Hargis, Daniel Hargis and Sienna Hargis; four great-great-grandchildren, Nicholas Tabor, Ethan Tabor, Brooklyn Cox and Shelby Cox; her best friend, Janis Gore; special cousins Reba Johnson of Crossville and Vaunoy Matthews of Melbourne, FL; special nephew, Ted Johnson and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hargis was preceded in death by her husband: three brothers and one sister-in-law, Delbert Lee Johnson Sr., Willie Baston and Myrtle Johnson and Charlie Benton Johnson; and one great-grandson Nathaniel Edward Hargis.
Pallbearers were Keith Hargis, Gary Hargis, Mark Hargis, Shawn Clouse, David Hargis, Anthony Graham, Rick Walker and Rodger Hargis. Honorary pallbearers were Karen Hargis and Donna Walker.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bread of Life or the American Heart Association.

Virginia Bell Haynie

Virginia Bell Plemons Haynie left this world to go home May 24, 2007. Memorial services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Tansi Community Church at 2067 Cravens Dr. in Tansi. the phone number for directions is 788-5011.
She was a very talented person who was loved and cherished by all whose path she crossed.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly, and her loving husband of 50 years, Terrel Samuel Haynie.
She is survived by her children, Kerrell Miller, Kristopher Haynie, Kevin Haynie, Patricia Haynie, Alice Baxter, Anthony Haynie and Christina Haynie McDermott; grandchildren Mark Randall Fritts II, Shannon Crecco, Cati Humes and Angel Humes; great-grandchildren, Michael Fritts, Amanda Haynie, Cody Haynie, Keri Byrd, Kelly Byrd, Vincent Byrd, Crystal Byrd and Raven Brandou; brothers, Clifford and Robert Plemons; and sister, and best friend, Ann Jett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Robert M. Papo

Robert Mordy Papo, 74, of Fairfield Glade, passed away May 26, 2007, after a long illness. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Glade at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, with Fr. Tom Moser officiating.
Mr. Papo was born July 10, 1932, in Detroit, MI, the oldset son of Mordy and Eleanor Papo. He retired in 1995 from Ford Motor Company after 22 years of service. He was also retired from the military with the rank of Chief Warrant Office 3 after serving with the Army, the Army Reserve and the Michigan National Guard for 27 years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (Fairfield Glade/Crossville) where he served as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. Prior to his illlness, he was an avid golfer and, while living in Michigan, was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a troop leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol E. Papo of Fairfield Glade; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Yanet Papo of Belleville, MI; sons Mark Papo of Whitesburg, TN, and Michael Papo of Crossville; grandsons Kevin Papo of Belleville, MI, and Michael Papo Jr. of Westland, MI; granddaughters Pamela Papo of Belleville, MI, and Amie Papo of Wayne, MI; brothers and sisters-in-law Bernard Papo of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Dennis and Jackie Papo of Escondido, CA, and William and Julie Papo of Muskegon, MI; and sister and brother-in-law Martha and Ken Tharp of Fort Collins, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mordy and Eleanor Papo.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dawson Eric Reed, 29, of Crossville, TN, passed away May 24, 2007. Funeral services were held May 24 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Young officiated with burial in Big Lick Cemetery.
Mr. Reed was born July 28, 1977, the son of Dawson and Brenda Rector Reed. He was employed as an electrician with ADT and sometimes operated heavy equipment. He enjoyed life and all his surroundings. He liked to fish and hunt. He loved spending time with his friends and family, living life to the fullest. He was a wonderful son, brother and friend that will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Dawson and Brenda Reed of Crossville; sister, Jolene Young and husband, Shannon, of Robbins, TN; and uncles and aunts, Ralph and Nancy Reed of Crossville, Sue and Don Painter of Oakdale, TN, Mary Peck of Crossville, Charles and Debbie Carson of Luts, FL, and Mary Reed of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilker and Ethel Reed and Joe and Pauline Rector.

Effie Pearl (Day) Smith, 80, of Crossville, passed away May 21, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike McCoy officiating. Interment was in Slate Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born June 22, 1926, in West Milford, WV, the daughter of William and India (McHenry) Day.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Emma Jean Adams of Crossville and Helen Louise McQueen of Murfreesboro; son, Michael "Buddy" Ray Smith of Atlanta, GA; sister, Myrtle Edwards of Clarksburg, WV; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Ray Smith; and son, William Lee Smith.
Pallbearers were Tyler Sisco, Steve Sisco, Richard Smith, Russ Williams, Mike McQueen, Terry McDonald, B.L. Bilyeu and David Gibson.
