The "Mountain Chair-ubs" Painted Furniture Auction will be held Friday, May 15, at the fairgrounds.

Crossville Chronicle, Crossville, TN

For scrumptious desserts, music by local country music legend Tommy Davenport, and a lively mix of live and silent auctions, come to the “Mountain Chair-ubs” Painted Furniture Auction on Friday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex Fair Grounds, 1398 Livingston Road in Crossville.

Over 40 artists and craftspeople in the area are using their talent and imagination to paint and decorate as many as 60 pieces of furniture for this exciting event. Most of the pieces will be chairs that will fit easily into your décor, but there will be pieces for your front porch, back deck, patio and garden as well. Many pieces would make unique and imaginative gifts for friends and family.

Unique items include a bench that would look great on a covered porch or in an entryway, a garden chair complete with flowering plants, a sturdy rocking chair of manly proportions, an antique wash stand with pink rosebuds, a window painted with a big bouquet of flowers, and a round café table with two matching chairs.

Other fun items just waiting for your bid will be a tray just right for breakfast in bed, wee chairs for your collection of dolls or teddy bears, chairs just the right size for your child or grandchild, a pair of stools decorated with roosters, a chair with a tropical theme, and one featuring an elegant trompé loeil (fool the eye) design (just try to pick up those pearls).

Door prizes include such luxuries as a complete one hour massage, a pair of tickets to a play compliments of the Cumberland County Playhouse, a pair of tickets to the soon-to-be sold out performance of Coyote Run at the Palace Theatre compliments of the Performing Arts Alliance of Rural Tennessee, a healthful basket of fresh produce, a gorgeous hanging plant, and many more. Door prizes will be given away during the evening, and you must be present to win.

Tickets at $5 are now available at Ruthie’s Antiques, corner of Fifth Street and West Avenue and Three Stones Crafts at 386 Thurman Ave., or by calling Judy Pearson at 484-8234. Kids under 10 are free. So grab a bite of supper before you come, have a delicious dessert on us, and join the fun on May 15 at the auction.

The “Mountain Chair-ubs” Painted Furniture Auction is presented by the Crossville Arts Council with the help of local businesses and many artists and donors throughout the community. For more information call Judy Pearson at 484-8234.
