Sept. 29 was the Mayland Festival Day and it was a huge success with the weather just beautiful and a fantastic crowd. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.

Members wish to thank all who participated in the festival and made the day one to remember and hope for a repeat next year.

Members would like to thank the Royal City and the Boys for coming and singing early in the morning. The crowd loved them. Also, thanks goes out to Monica Henson, Jay Fox and the Greater Faith, Johnny Moore, Jessie James and the Outlaws with the ladies group called the Teddy Bears. They all did a wonderful job of entertaining the crowd and really had their attention.

The silent auction was held with wonderful gifts to bid on. The 50/50 table with Mike Zunich and Bob Brown was a great success. The attraction for the children was Ron Maynard's petting zoo. It also attracted the adults as well.

Of course, the popcorn, cotton candy and sno cones were a big hit. Woodmen of the World brought their large grill to cook the hamburgers and hot dogs with Tony Snider and John doing the cooking and Roy Welch taking care of customers.

The auction was great and everybody was busy bidding on items.

The Allardt Cloggers, Mrs. Feather's Face Paintings, child identification by the county sheriff, and the Woodmen of the World were also a very important part of the festival.

Members wish to thank the Mayland Fire Department for bringing the new engine to the festival to be a part of the day. The children and adults really enjoyed it. Thank you Barney for bringing and being a part of the festival. Everyone should have seen all the workers that helped make the day so great. It couldn't have been done without you.

A big thank you for all those ladies and businesses that donated all the delicious baked goods. Thanks to the ladies that worked in the kitchen. Thanks to Peter Chase and Betty Forsythe for cooking the food that was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to the ones that set up and were a part of the festival. There was jewelry, baked goods and a cotton candy stand with many beautiful items.

There are so many to thank. Thanks to everyone for making the Mayland Festival so great.

The next senior meeting will be Friday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m.

Bingo will be at 4 p.m. It will be sponsored by WyndRidge Health and Rehab Center with Barbara Neely. They will furnish the wonderful gifts.

This will be the business meeting and everyone will be brought up-to-date on the festival.

President Leonard Granger will be bringing everyone up to date on the project and announcements.

There will be a special guest, Jo O'Neal with the Cumberland County Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone is looking forward to this visit. This is a very important meeting for all members in order to do the volunteer sheets.

Remember the buffet. Bring your favorite dish or casserole. Members hope some of you will make a meat dish. Don't forget those homemade desserts.

The Thrift Store is changing to fall and winter colors. Members are busy trying to get the merchandise out for customers.

The merchandise is marked to sell, so there is no need for a sale. Come in and look everything over. There are some beautiful fall and winter merchandise.
