Don’t be caught unprepared for Valentine’s Day! Show that special someone in your life how much you care by giving a gift of chocolate or treat yourself to delicious tidbits of prize-winning recipes and maybe even buy a cookbook for a do-it-yourself friend who will share their baking results with you. Whichever route you decide to take, it will lead directly to “Chocolate Fest 2008” on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 12 Westminster Court (off Peavine Road) in Fairfield Glade, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade.

Chocolate has long been known to be a worldwide “comfort” food with its rich, velvety taste and huge variety of uses. You can sample some of them at the Chocolate Fest by purchasing a $5 ticket at the door that allows you to have a taste of the entries in the bake-off contest and possibly savor a bite of the grand prize winner’s entry, too. The grand prize this year is a beautiful “lentil” style silver pendant on a black cord necklace with silver clasp fashioned by silversmith Nancy Jansen, a member of the Art Guild. It is textured on one side and beautifully polished on the other, making it reversible from casual to more formal, but elegantly presented however you wear it.

Those new to the Chocolate Fest will be amazed at the variety of items offered at the bake sale tables. At the incredibly sumptuous dipping chocolate fountain you will have choices of different fruits such as apricots, pineapple or strawberries, marshmallows and pretzels. At the gift table there will be Valentine centerpieces and gift packages which include original soup bowl creations by members of the Art Guild filled with chocolate cookies and candies. Sugar-free items will also be available as well as a complete cookbook of chocolate recipes in an easy-to-read format.

Art Guild members may pick up packaging supplies at the Village Green Mall Monday through Thursday, Feb. 4-7, from 9 a.m. to noon. For questions and information, contact Barb Rogers at 456-7510 or 248-8189.
