Former County Commissioner Dorothy Harrison turned 90 years old Feb. 28.

Harrison moved to Tennessee from Michigan in 1972, where she was active in politics in many of her adult years. She was a city commissioner in Sterling Heights, MI. In August 1994, Harrison was elected to the Cumberland County Commission from District 9 (Fairfield Glade) and was re-elected to two more terms. She was involved in many fund-raising activities to benefit the county and city of Crossville.

On March 1, there will be an open house at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1461 Sparta Highway, from 2-4 p.m. The community is invited to attend and help Harrison celebrate this milestone.

She has been a long-time member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and was instrumental in finding the property on which the church is built.
