The Fairfield Glade Bass Club recently held its first tournament of 2014 on Lakes Malvern and Pomeroy. Twenty-one fishermen participated, with a total of 13 bass being caught and released. Eleven fishermen fished Lake Malvern, with only four fish caught. Lake Pomeroy faired better with a total of nine bass caught. Water temperatures varied from 47 degrees to a high of 53 degrees over the three-day contest. Baits used were primarily jigs and soft plastics.
The fish caught on Lake Pomeroy were tagged by our Lakes Consultant, Fred Heitman, as a part of an attempt to better estimate the number of catchable fish in Lake Pomeroy. Bass Club member, John Upp, will also be tagging fish in Lake Pomeroy. Should anyone catch one of the tagged fish, they should record the tag number along with the length and weight of the fish and location of the catch and report this to John Upp at 707-0454. The cooperation of all fishermen will be greatly appreciated.
The results of the first tournament are as follows:
First Place – Lee Murray and Jim McCulloch having four bass weighing 12.02 pounds;
Second Place – Jim Hajny and Nick Petrafesa with three bass weighing 7.18 pounds;
Third Place – John Upp and Richard Carpenter (new member) with two bass weighing 3.84 pounds;
Fourth Place – Tom Teall and John Janosko (new member) with three bass weighing 2.44 pounds
Fifth Place – Ed Wolters (fishing alone) with one bass weighing .60 pounds
