The first “Paddle for Life" Kayak/Canoe Charity Race in Fairfield Glade is coming soon. The race is organized by Faith Bible Fellowship of Fairfield Glade to raise money for our local charity – Plateau Pregnancy Services (PPS).

If you have a kayak or canoe, or can borrow one, and it’s registered for use on Fairfield Glade lakes, now is your chance to test your stroke against our 50-and-older crowd of residents in the Glade. The race is scheduled for Sunday afternoon on Sept. 21, at the Lake St. George Marina area. There will be various men’s and women’s kayak/canoe categories for prizes.

The pre-registration entrant fee will be $10 until Sept. 15; late registration will be $15, so get registered early! All racers must be Fairfield Glade residents or timeshare visitors. Racers will be required to use boats that are “lakeworthy,” have current Fairfield Glade lake stickers and wear a personal flotation device during the race.

Each entrant will be encouraged to gain team boosters who will donate to the charity. The team raising the most support for PPS will win the grand prize. Local businesses can also sponsor a team.

The race is planned to start at 2 p.m. and complete by 4:30 p.m., to be followed by a “bring your own picnic supper” with awards and music provided by Dennis Donald. Race application packages will be available at various Glade locations, such as our new Community Center. The race organizers are currently looking for a race business sponsor who could ensure that each racer receives a commemorative “Paddle-for-life” T-shirt.

If you are interested in racing or want to volunteer for this fun event contact for more information. See you on the water!
