The Cumberland County Elks Lodge 2751 will hold their annual Labor Day Veterans Benefit Picnic on Sept. 1. It will be held at the Robinhood Park on Peavine Road in Fairfield Glade from noon to 7 p.m.

This is an all-you-can-eat event for $8 per person, $4 for children under 10. The Labor Day picnic is scheduled each year to support the “Laborers For Freedom” veterans that are hospitalized. These veterans are stationed at both of the nursing home units of the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.

The Cumberland County Elks make visits every other month to provide articles of clothing and toiletries to the vets. In addition every veteran celebrating a recent birthday is honored with a birthday present. Refreshments are served and a good time is had by all. In most cases, the Elks are the only visitors these vets ever see. The proceeds from the picnic make it possible to carry out this program.

All-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, salad, and dessert are included in the $8 price. Soft drinks are $1 and beer is available for adults at $1.50. Picnic tickets may be purchased at the Elks Lodge, 1145 Genesis Road, during business hours or at the park on Labor Day. The lodge is opened Monday-Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. Please call 484-0150 for questions or additional information.

Make plans to attend with family and friends and enjoy a day with good food and entertainment. Frank Byers will supply music all day. Covered picnic tables are available or bring your own lawn chair.
