Now that our junior and adult camps have finished, we are ready to jump into the upcoming tournaments. Our second annual Fairfield Glade Racquet Club Ladies Exclusive Tennis Tournament is coming up Sept. 14-16. This tournament will be played at the ranking level, not age level. There will be some great challenges at all levels, so sign up as soon as you can. For 2007, we have added singles brackets to each level of play. Online registration is available from the USTA Web site under tournament number 704211707.

Next on your list for tennis, be sure to participate in the inaugural Ron Raulston/Charity Tennis-Golf-a-Thon to be held on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007. Sign up to play in this fun and challenging tennis/golf fundraiser. Bill Van Keuren, Cindy Olsen and Ron Reynolds are lining up for a great time and some great prizes for our participants.

Captains and teams will be formed from the sign-up sheet at the tennis pro shop. Tennis play will begin at 11 a.m. with an 8-game pro-set, followed by lunch, and at 3:30 p.m. a shotgun scramble golf tournament will finalize the winning teams. The cost is $75/person and the profit will be given to Bread of Life Rescue Mission, Plateau Pregnancy Center and the mission/school in Soloy, Panama where Ron Raulston was working. This will be a great time for everyone, even if you do not play tennis or golf that well, come and support some great causes. Participation in this event will be limited, so call the tennis center today and sign up (484-3758).

The Tellico Challenge date has been set for Wednesday, Oct. 31. Tellico will host this fun and challenging inter-club activity at their Chiloate Recreation Center. If you are age 50 or older and like to play tennis, this is your opportunity to help the Fairfield Glade team. The cost to play is $5/person and a Fairfield Glade bus has been reserved for transportation (cost for transportation to be determined by number of passengers). The sign-up sheet is at the tennis center, so be sure to get your name on the roster ASAP.

The next challenge to put on your calendars is the Club Championship. Tournament matches will be played Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6, and the round robin events will take place Nov. 2-3, with the champions' banquet on Nov. 3. Sign up for these events will take place at the end of August.

As a final note — who cranked up the heat? When you are playing in these extreme temperatures, make sure you keep hydrated, that is, full of water — before you go on the court, during your time on the court and after you are off the court. It is important to me (as I am sure it is to each of you) that you stay healthy and playing as much tennis as you can. We have new products to help you keep your cool arriving daily — be sure to stop by — we are your one-stop-shop for all your tennis needs. If we can help you in any way to "Get in the Game," call us at 484-3758.
