    Lorretta Howard and Daniel Paul lead an intertribal dance during the third annual Pow Wow on the Plateau, held Saturday at the Cumberland County Community Complex. The event featured Native American dancing, drumming and storytelling. It is held annually in June.

    Area residents and their four-legged friends were invited out to the Cumberland County Courthouse lawn Saturday, May 16, to enjoy a little fun and fellowship.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Patriotic kids show up en masse for parade
    According to the DAR, a record number of children participated in the non-motorized parade. They dressed in their red, white and blue, decorated their bikes, trikes, battery-powered cars and wagons for the trip from the Palace Theatre to the Crossvile Depot.

    Cloudy skies and threats of rain couldn't keep people from coming out to enjoy the annual Depot Days festival.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Relay for Life marches toward fundraising goal
    The 2008 Relay for Life was held Friday night at the fairgrounds. The theme was "Once upon a time ... there was a cure." Over 120 survivors registered. This year's fundraising goal was $185,000, up from last year's $177,000.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Community Center opens to great fanfare
    The Fairfield Glade Community Club (FGCC) passed another milestone on Monday. The $6.5 million Community and Conference Center was opened to great fanfare as dignitaries such as U.S. Congressman Lincoln Davis, state Representative Eric Swafford, Crossville Mayor J.H. Graham, and many others joined the FGCC board of directors at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Kids get active with art
    Youth Expo 2008, sponsored by Cumberland Artists for Creative Expression, was April 12 at the Community Complex. Children of all ages had hands-on experience in various arts and crafts.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Vietnam veterans' welcome "long overdue"
    It was a day filled with both tears of gratitude and joy blended with raindrops under a drizzly, gray sky. However, the cool, rainy, damp conditions weren't enough to darken an event that was more than three decades overdue.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Toxic Youth claims Stone's Battle of the Bands title
    Students, parents and assorted fans were on hand for the first Battle of the Bands at Stone Memorial High School Saturday. Eight aspiring bands and musicians took the stage, hoping they would be named the victor. In the end, it was two brothers and their friends taking the prize, a $100 purse and two hours of recording time at Star Recording Studios.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Cole, Wood get royal treatment at CCHS homecoming
    Cumberland County High School crowned Ginny Cole and Chase Wood as the 2008 Basketball King and Queen. Cole is the 18-year-old daughter of Danny and Janice Cole. Chase is the 17-year-old son of Jerry and Rebecca Wood. The Lady Jets scored a 73-27 victory over Rhea County in the Homecoming contest, while the Jets beat Rhea County 67 to 42.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Senior Night at Cumberland County High School
    Cumberland County High School celebrated senior night on Feb. 5, when the Jets and Lady Jets hosted Rhea County. The Lady Jets won 73-27, while the Jets were victorious 67-42.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Watts gets the crown as Stone Homecoming Queen
    Ashleigh Watts was crowned the Stone Memorial High School Basketball Homecoming Queen during Friday night's homecoming activities. Watts was escorted by Bobby Reed. She is the daughter of Lowell and Billie Jo Watts.

    Young Marines were recognized for the awards they had earned during the year. Some of the Awards that were earned were Community Service, Good Conduct, Veterans Appreciation, Attendance, Sportsmanship, Organized Trip and Honor Recruit.

    A round of applause and cheers roared from the crowd after watching a video recording of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Hundreds of Cumberland County residents and visitors paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday during a celebration of diversity ceremony at Martin Elementary School's Little Theater.

  • LOCAL VIDEO: Stage is set for elementary hoops championships Tuesday
    The 2008 Cumberland County elementary basketball tournament entered the semifinal round Monday, with the championship games slated Tuesday at Cumberland County High School, after playing its first two rounds at both CCHS and Stone Memorial High School over the weekend.     Members of the community gathered Tuesday evening to hear the latest developments on improvements to Hwy. 127 North from Interstate 40 to Clarkrange, but when TDOT Project Manager Ann Andrews said it would be four more years before construction could begin, the announcement was met with heavy sighs and murmurings of "we can't wait that long."

  • LOCAL VIDEO: 2007 Parade of Trees
    The annual Parade of Trees is one of Crossville's most enduring holiday traditions, and this year is no different. The trees, decorated by various clubs and service organizations throughout Cumberland County, currently are on display at First National Bank of Tennessee through Dec. 24. There's also a special viewing this Sunday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
