SMHS falls to White County

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial High School basketball teams will take a week off, after dropping a pair of games to White County Friday night. The Lady Panthers were beaten 57-45 by the Lady Warriors, while the Panthers dropped a heart-breaker 72-71.

White County 72, SMHS 71: According to the Tennessean, SMHS led 18-12 after one quarter, but the Warriors scored the hosts 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 34-32 lead at the break.

SMHS outscored their future District 6AAA foes 30-15 in the third quarter for 64-47 advantage, but the Warriors outscored the Panthers 27-17 in the final quarter, including a three-point play in the final seconds for the winning margin.

No statistics were available for the Panthers.

White County 57, SMHS 45: Coach John Walker's Lady Panthers led 17-8 after one quarter, but the Lady Warrirors used a 30-8 second quarter to take a 38-25 lead at the break. They extended the lead to 49-34 after three quarters, but the Lady Panthers finished the game with an 11-8 spurt to make the final margin 57-45.

Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Tiffany Cokkinias (five rebounds, seven assists, five steals), Jordan Thompson (one rebound), Emily Bryant (three rebounds, one steal), Jacki Livesay (11 points, one rebound, one steal), Kirsten Potter (five points, two rebounds), Faith VanRuden, Abby Griffin (nine points, one rebound, one assist, three steals), Bailey Rutledge, Courtney White (seven points, seven rebounds, two steals), Sidney Early (three points, two rebounds, one steal) and Mikayla Kington (four points, three rebounds).

Schedule: SMHS will return to the court on Dec. 11 at White County and Dec. 14 at Livingston, before hosting Livingston, Alcoa and Silverdale on Dec. 15. Livingston will play Alcoa at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., followed by the Silverdale-SMHS double-header, beginning at 6 p.m.
