Lady Panthers second seed in district tourney


CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial Lady Panther volleyball team are the second seed in the District 4AA Tournament which opens Thursday at Alcoa High School. SMHS (23-22-1) plays Alcoa in the semi-finals at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing into the championship match and earning a berth in the Region 2AA Tournament, Oct. 16, at Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK).

Casey Swafford was the district's Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Amanda Walker was the league's Setter of the Year. Jessica Bertram and Jacki Livesay earned All-District 4AA honors, and Megan Hayes was All-District 4AA honorable mention.

Other district award winners were Teresa Slade, CAK, District Player of the Year; Taylor Call, CAK, Defensive Player of the Year; Katie Townsend, Alcoa, Server of the Year; Addis Willis, Loudon, Rookie of the Year; and Kent Russell, Loudon, Coach of the Year.

Rounding out the Al-District team were Katie Stubblefield, Alcoa; Tiffanie Moore, Alcoa; Courtney Shields, CAK; Cheyene Hooper, CAK; Brynn Pierce, CAK; Casey Hurley, Kingston; Jenny Parrish, Kingston; and Kallie Harvey, Loudon.

Other honorable mention players were Katie Raabe, CAK; Tiffany Ritchi, Kingston; Brittany Partello, Kingston; Savannah Harper, Loudon; and Breanna Baker, Loudon.

The Lady Panthers ended the regular season with a three-set victory over Livingston.
