The third annual CRYSA pre-season soccer tournament took place at the Carl T. Duer Soccer Complex during the weekend of Aug. 16. This three-day event was sponsored by the Bo Patton Memorial Fund and featured a record number of teams and players between the ages of four and 14.
“I have never seen a sports event with this much activity here in Crossville," said Larry Doster of Crossville Trophy who was visiting the event on Friday night. “The fields are a hidden jewel and soccer in Crossville keeps growing."
Every player in the U4 and U6 age groups receive medals since CRYSA does not keep scores in these age categories. The winners in the U8, U10 and U14 age groups received medals and trophies and were as follows:
U8 – Cumberland Dermatology (coached by Chuy Uribe)
U10 – Crossville Chronicle (coached by Mary Patterson)
U14 – DSSI (coached by Manuel Fuentes)
Other teams were coached by Nikki Thompson, Mark Canaiss (Plemons-Jackson and Cabanis), Scott Haney, Tracy Buck (Buck Masonry), Scott Woodard (Tennessee Anesthesia), Aarron Alva, Chuy Uribe (Fraternal Order of Police) and Virgil Thompson (Jim Thompson, coach, First Franklin).
The 2014 edition of the CRYSA soccer camp is scheduled for the first week in June 2014. This will be the 10th year of the camp and will be open to players between the ages of six and 16. Featuring former high school players as camp councilors, the camp is a great place for beginners and intermediate players to improve their technical skills and understanding of the game. Finally, the camp will also offer opportunities for Elite players to improve their technical and tactical skills under the direction of AR Richardson and Geir Bergvin.
Finally, the CRYSA Board would like to thank their sponsors, the many volunteers who helped during the event as well as the city of Crossville for their continued support and immaculate fields for the children to play on.
