‘It’s elementary:’ All home teams win Thursday night

CROSSVILLE — All four home games notched victories on the opening night of Cumberland County Elementary football action Thursday.

Pleasant Hill defeated Brown, Homestead beat North 14-0, South shut out Crab Orchard 51-0 and Martin defeated Stone 24-6.

Pleasant Hill 14, Brown 8: "This was a hard-fought game," said Hornet coach Jay Wright.

The hosts took a 6-0 lead at half-time, but Brown answered back with a third quarter score, driving the ball for more than eight minutes to take an 8-6 lead.

Pleasant Hill did not give up and responded with a long scoring drive. With five minutes left in the game, Pleasant Hill scored the go-ahead touchdown and added the two-point conversion.

Brown was unable to respond, as time ran out in the contest.

Martin 24, Stone 6: The Martin Eagles clinched a season-opening victory over the Stone Coyotes Thursday night with a score of 24 to 6.

Caleb Lester scored two touchdowns and Ryan Graham scored twice.

"Thanks for all your support," said Coach Matt Harris.

The Eagles will be back in action this Thursday at home against Homestead at 6 p.m. Martin would like to thankDirector of Schools Donald Andrews for keeping the clock.

No details were received on the other games.

This week's schedule has Crab Orchard at Stone, South at Pleasant Hill, Homestead at Martin and Brown at North.
