SMHS tennis teams defeat both Rockwood teams 7-2 Tuesday

CROSSVILLE — The Stone Memorial tennis teams swept a pair of district matches from Rockwood Tuesday. Both squads won by 7-2 scores.

SMHS 7, Rockwood 2: Ali Harris defeated Alex Patterson 8-0 in #1 singles. Peyton Franklin posted an 8-1 victory over Shelley Edwards at #2 singles.Tori Harris won her #3 singles match 8-1 against Kristen Jolley.

Elise Myslinski easily defeated her #4 singles opponent 8-1.  Savannah Brown lost 5-8 to Zoe Hill in a well-played #5 singles match.  Abbie Wightman posted her first varsity win over Allison Frogg 9-7 for a hard-fought victory.

Tori and Ali Harris easily defeated Patterson and Kelley 8-0 at #1 doubles. The duo of Franklin and Myslinski went on to post an 8-1 win in #2 doubles, and the doubles pair of Brown and Wightman lost at #3 to Jolley and Hill by a match score of 3-8. 

The SMHS Lady Panthers are now 2-0 in district play with a previous win of 9-0 over the Harriman Lady Blue Devils and 2-1 overall after a loss to the non-district Cookeville Lady Cavaliers.

SMHS 7, Rockwood 2: Mark Brown earned an 8-4 victory at #1 singles over Ryan Hamby. Tyler Yoder won his #2 singles match in impressive fashion over Arin Deardorff 8-1. Trent Campbell won his match over Dalton Kirkland at #3 singles 8-3. Parker Hill posted his 8-2 win at #4 singles over Carson McCullough. Steven Tung notched another district win at #5 singles by defeating Tyler Wicks 8-4.

Brown and Campbell combined their efforts to defeat Hamby and Deardorff 8-6 to wrap up the #1 doubles win. The doubles pair of Yoder and Hill teamed up for a resounding 8-1 victory over their district opponents Kirkland and Morlock at #2 doubles. 

The Panther boys team forfeited #6 singles and #3 doubles for lack of players.

The Panthers boys are 2-0 in the district with a previous win of 7-2 over the Harriman Blue Devils and 2-1 overall after a loss to the non-district Cookeville Cavaliers.. 

The Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted the Loudon Co. Redskins Thursday for another district match.
