Harris wins Region 2A/AA singles tennis gold medal


CROSSVILLE — Stone Memorial sophomore Ali Harris won the Region 2A/AA tennis singles championship Tuesday at Pigeon Forge High School to earn her a second-straight berth in next week's state meet in Murfreesboro at MTSU.

Harris defeated Chesnie Nichols of Carter High School in the first round of the tournament in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, according to SMHS coach Ray Hawn.  

In the other bracket of girls singles tennis, Jessica Dunn of Alcoa High School defeated Claire Troxler of Gatlinburg-Pittman 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the final round against Harris, who won another decisive gold medal win of 6-0, 6-0.

As a freshman, she won the gold medal at the regional championships and finished in the final four of the state tournament.

Harris will face Region 3 winner sophomore Katie Delay of Boyd Buchanan High School at the TSSAA Spring Sports Championships played May 20-24 in Murfreesboro.
